A packaged baked food item, and a method for forming it, are disclosed. A film is laid over a tray containing moulds and a portion of dough deposited onto the film over each mould. The dough is baked to form an item having a face moulded by the inner surface of the mould and with the film conformed to it. A second film is extended over the first film and the films attached to each other to at least partially enclose the baked food item between the first and second films as a package. The first film may be pre-formed to the shape of the moulds prior to depositing the dough and baking. The method provides a means to facilitate packaging baked items, with a package mimicking the moulded shape of the underlying item, and may also be used to reduce the need for resurfacing of baking trays with non-stick layers.

The bottom region (12) of the cup (1) is at least partially deformable under externally applied force to facilitate dislodgement of the consumable product from the compartments (13).

The present disclosure is concerned with heat shrunk sealed packages of flexible transparent thermoplastic film that easily opened by peeling. It involves lowering the peel strength of the heat seal between the two films used to form the package by providing one of them with a frangible layer by contaminating a layer with an incompatible polymer and providing a set of graspable tabs, one on each of the films, with which to initiate peeling of the heat seal. The tabs are heat set so that they do not shrink with the rest of the package. In a preferred embodiment, the package is provided with a second heat seal just inside the perimeter of the first and a stress concentrator, which may be a chevron, at the juncture of heat set tabs which lie with one atop the other with the first heat seal.

This invention discloses a leak proof disposable container, comprising of a bottom portion composed of expandable thermoplastic resin beads and a lidding film, for containing non-carbonated drinks or food products that do not require heating prior to consumption. The inventive container eliminates the use of polypropylene and polystyrene snap-on lids currently used for cups and containers. The snap-on lid is replaced with a thermoplastic lidding film, a leak proof seal is formed between the lidding film and upper flange of the bottom portion. Replacement of the snap-on lid with lidding film, reduces the weight of the disposable lidding material by 74 percent. Through the appropriate selection of materials, one can produce a leak proof container that is 100 percent recyclable under the #6 PS (polystyrene) symbol.

A pull tab sealing member for a container is provided combining the advantages of an insulation or foamed polymer layer for effective heat sealing together with an overall laminate structure having a higher internal strength even with the use of the foamed polymer layer. The sealing members herein are capable of withstanding higher removal forces by repositioning an internal stress point within the seal laminate structure.

The process is designed to ensure that the container (11) can withstand the heat required to heat the food in the packaging container and that fewer materials are used in the creation of a packaging container than would otherwise be required.
