Abstract:
Various implementations include a device for assisting with and controlling stretching of a limb of a patient. The device includes a limb support for receiving the limb, a base, and a coupling that rotatably couples the limb support and the base. The coupling allows the limb support to rotate through various axes of rotation individually, depending on the range of motion expected for the limb. For example, for a device designed for the foot, the coupling allows a foot support to rotate about a first axis, a second axis, and a third axis, wherein the three axes are orthogonal to each other. In other implementations, the device may be designed for other portions of limbs, such as the hand, the forearm, the upper arm, the lower leg, and the upper leg.
Abstract:
Massage systems and methods for massaging a person's body include a massaging unit coupled to a processing module and a power supply. First and second actuators are housed in the first massaging unit. The first actuator applies a moving pressure to the person's body to create a first trace, and simultaneously, the second actuator applies a moving pressure to the person's body to create a second. The first trace comprises a first segment of a perimeter of a rectangle from a first corner of the rectangle to a midpoint of a first edge that is adjacent to the first corner. The second trace comprises a second segment of the perimeter of the rectangle from a second corner of the rectangle to a midpoint of a second edge that is adjacent to the second corner, and the first and second edges are parallel.
Abstract:
A rehabilitation apparatus includes: an operation unit that is operated by a subject of rehabilitation; an operation amount detection unit that detects an operation amount of the operation unit; a drive unit that drives the operation unit; a control unit that controls drive of the drive unit; a posture detection unit that detects a posture of the subject; an external force detection unit that detects an external force acting upon the operation unit; and a display unit that displays an operation target position of the operation unit. The control unit calculates a manipulability ellipse representing manipulability of a body of the subject based on the posture of the subject detected by the posture detection unit, calculates the operation target position based on the calculated manipulability ellipse, calculates a target value of the operation amount for the operation unit on the basis of the external force detected by the external force detection unit and the calculated operation target position, and controls the driving unit such that the operation amount detected by the operation amount detection unit follows the calculated target value of the operation amount.
Abstract:
Apparatus comprising an array of individually controlled skin treatment units to be applied to a skin segment with each of the units comprising: a housing defining a cavity that fluidly communicates with a source of vacuum pressure, having an inner side terminated by a rim facilitating sealing of the cavity when the unit is applied to the skin, dimensions of the cavity being sufficient to accommodate a volume of a skin segment drawn into the cavity by the source of vacuum pressure to create a skin protrusion; wherein application and release of vacuum pressure to the unit generates a back and forth massaging movement of at least a portion of a volume of skin against the rim, and wherein each of the units of the array has at least two degrees of rotational movement with respect to an adjacent unit so that the array can conform to skin segment topography.
