摘要:
A preform for an optical element is provided which involves less amount of deformation of glass in molding, and readily improves lifetime of the mold. The present preform for molding an optical glass element 10 exhibits an almost circular shape having a predetermined diameter in top view, exhibits a flattened semicircular shape having a predetermined overall height in side view, has a concave face on the top surface such that the predetermined overall height is attained at approximately the central position of the aforementioned circular shape, and has a concave face so as to fit along the convex face of the top surface such that a space is provided on the bottom face. The under surface may be either a concave face or a convex face. Also, the top surface may be either a concave face or a convex face.

A system and method for preparing chalcogenide glass are provided that allow for larger quantities of glass to be produced with lower production costs and less risks of environmental hazards. The system includes a reaction container operable to hold chalcogenide glass constituents during a glass formation reaction, a stirring rod operable to mix the contents of the reaction container, a thermocouple operable to measure the temperature inside the reaction container, and a reaction chamber operable to hold the reaction container. The method includes placing chalcogenide glass constituents in a reaction container, heating the chalcogenide glass constituents above the melting point of at least one of the constituents, promoting dissolving or reaction of the other constituents, stirring the reaction melt, maintaining an overpressure of at least one atmosphere over the reaction melt, and cooling the reaction melt to below the chalcogenide glass transition temperature.

The invention provides a glass-molding method and apparatus for molding an optical device steadily while considering the changes in shape of glass material without damage to its shape and material. The apparatus comprises an upper mold (2) combined with a heating unit (15) with a built-in heater (6a) to work glass material (1) with heat; a lower mold (3) combined with a heating unit (16) with a built-in heater (6b); an upper shaft (7), a lower shaft (8) and a cylinder (9) to set a plurality of molding pressures; a nozzle (13) for holding and transferring a glass material (1); a turn table (11) provided with a pocket (12), means for controlling the speed of the mold movement; means for gradually controlling the molding pressure according to the speed of the mold movement; a sensor (10) for detecting the displacement of the molds; and means for performing molding control depending on the set temperature higher than the transition point of the glass material (1), the displacement of the molds and the speed of the mold movement.

A first sectionally inverted V-shaped projection (12) and a second sectionally trapezoidal projection (14) are formed on the press surface of a die. A sectionally V-shaped groove for mounting an optical part and a sectionally inverted trapezoidal groove serving as an alignment mark are formed on one principal plane of a glass substrate by press forming through reverse transfer from corresponding projections (12, 14). This arrangement makes it possible to align the glass substrate with a photolithography mask with precision when forming a pattern on a die-formed glass substrate.
