Abstract:
A writing utensil having a utensil body (10) and, placed therein, an exchangeable refill filled with an ink containing a solvent having a vapor pressure of 1 to 50 mm Hg (20 DEG ), characterized in that the refill has a pen point comprising a fiber core or a plastic core and the pen point is coated with a material capable of suppressing the vaporization of the solvent in an amount of 0.01 to 20 wt % relative to the pen point. It is preferred that the above material is also contained in the ink. The above materials include glycerol derivatives, polyoxyethylene sorbit fatty acid ester, an alkyl phosphate ester, waxes and lecithin.
Abstract:
A hand-held multipurpose casing, with a functional tipped device housed within the casing so as to be linearly and reversibly extendible relative to the casing, is disclosed. This casing has a cylinder-type or screw-type actuating unit designed to reversibly extend the functional tipped device. The screw-type actuating unit has two spiral screw engagements, with opposite spiral directions. In an embodiment, the hand-held multipurpose casing has a front barrel, a middle barrel, a rear barrel, and a functional tipped device holder having a functional tipped device at its front tip and housed within the casing. A cap is fixedly mounted to the rear end of the rear barrel, with two holding slots formed on the front end portion of the external surface of the cap at diametrically opposite positions. A screw-type actuating unit movably engages with both the functional tipped device holder and the cap through two spiral screw-type engagements with opposite spiral directions.
Abstract:
A retractable felt-tipped pen (10) is disclosed which includes first (12) and second (14) cylindrical members movable with respect to each other and a pen nib (18) connected to one of the first (12) and second (14) cylinders. A flexible membrane (32) is connected to at least one of the first (12) and second (14) tubes and rotates inward on itself to engage the pen nib (18) in a closed condition to seal the pen nib (18) and rotates outward from itself to disengage the pen nib (18) for writing and/or the membrane (32) simply expands without rotation.
Abstract:
A retractable instrument in accordance with the disclosure advantageously has a simple construction and fewer pieces or sub-assemblies than known retractable instruments. The retractable instrument includes a barrel that encloses a tool holder. The tool holder has an extension, and a tool extending from the distal end of the extension. ? valve selectively covers the tool to protect the tool from environmental conditions. A biasing element is disposed between the valve and the tool holder, the biasing element biases the valve away from the tool holder. A movable closure assembly retains the valve on the extension and selectively allows the lid to open and close. The closure assembly includes a closure ring and a retention ring connected by one or more closure arms. The retention ring is disposed on the tool holder and the retention ring is prevented from sliding off of the tool holder by a retention stop.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a writing instrument, and more particularly, a retractable marker pen. In a conventional knocking type marker pen, a cap for preventing drying of ink in a pen nib is installed to be pushed and opened by the pen nib. A problem of the conventional configuration is that an ink-vehicle layer produced at the cap hinders the cap from being tightly closed, thus causing a degradation in the sealing efficiency of the cap. To solve this problem, in the retractable marker pen disclosed herein, after the cap is pushed and opened by a pushing portion that is defined in a sliding arm secured to a body member of the marker pen, the pen nib is extruded out of a housing of the marker pen, so as not to have an ink on the cap, and consequently achieve improved sealing efficiency of the cap.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a writing implement consisting of: a body (10) comprising a hole (14) through which a writing tip (16) passes, and a slit (18); a support (32); and a strip (22) which is guided along a curved trajectory. In addition, a button (34), which is connected to the support (32), can move along the length of the slit (18) between (i) a distal position in relation to the hole (14), in which the support (32) and the strip (22) are in the storage position, and (ii) a proximal position in relation to the hole, in which the support (32) and the strip (22) are in the writing position. According to the invention, the body (10) is essentially flat and the hole (14) is provided on the side face (10c) along which the strip (22) moves between the writing position and the storage position.
Abstract:
A writing utensil configurable between retracted and extended configurations is provided. The writing utensil includes a body having an interior volume and an aperture. A reciprocally movable nib assembly is located in the body and includes a nib that, when in the extended configuration, traverses the aperture. To prevent the nib from drying when in the retracted configuration, a sealing element seals the aperture. In an embodiment, the sealing element is a resilient valve element that can be opened by a sleeve slidably engaging the nib assembly. After the sleeve opens the valve, the sleeve slides with respect to the nib assembly to expose the nib. In another embodiment, the sealing element can be a sliding door that is attached to the nib assembly and overlays the aperture. When the nib assembly is moved to the extended configuration, the sliding door slides in a manner that opens the aperture.
Abstract:
A capless writing implement (1) having a writing body (5) disposed in a shaft tube (2) so that the pen tip part (6) of the writing body (5) can be extended and retracted from the tip opening of the shaft tube (2), comprising an inner cap (20) formed of a rubber material or an elastic resin material which is fitted to the tip opening of the shaft tube (2), the inner cap (20) further comprising a closing part (21) having a slit (25) allowing the pen tip part (6) to be extended and retracted therethrough and closing the tip opening which is formed on the extension side of the pen tip part in the axial direction of the shaft tube and a forward projected (27) swelled toward the tip opening which is formed at the outer peripheral part of the closing part (21), characterized in that the inner cap (20) is installed in the shaft tube so that a force is applied, in the closed state of the slit (25), from the outer periphery to the inside of the forward projected part (27) in a direction generally perpendicular to a slit surface.
