Abstract:
A method and apparatus for ensuring a correct satellite signal connection. Specifically, a user selects a satellite signal via an integrated receiver/decoder (IRD) from at least one satellite, and the IRD sends a command signal to a selector switch to acquire and lock onto said satellite signal. The IRD repeats transmission of the command signal to the selector switch once the IRD has acquired and locked onto said information signal. Thus, in the event that the selector switch failed to switch to a low noise block converter (LNB) corresponding to the initial command signal, then the repeated command signal helps to ensure that the selector switch switches to the LNB corresponding with the latest command signal sent by the IRD.
Abstract:
The invention involves transmission download of data to plural, mass storage medium-based remote users (16a, 16b, 16c) of content (18) or software upgrades (22) or multiple versions. Optionally provided are pre-download scheduling of one or more future download sessions and post-download remote scripted software execution by the remote clients (16a, 16b, 16c). For purposes of more efficient use of the transmission link, low-volume scheduling information or content are transmitted within designated narrow-bandwidth sub-channels or trickle streams allocated within the broad bandwidth of the transmission channel and such allocation may be dynamic to vary the allocation based upon relative high-volume, high-speed and low-volume, low-speed demands. The implemented software resides primarily in the server (12) connected with the transmission provider (14). The software schedules allotted bandwidth within the broadcast band of the transmission link and formats high-volume data for transmission within sub-allocation channels logically devised therein. Client software distributed home entertainment device sites (16a, 16b, 16c) for operational enhancements as well as video program or content enhancements. Client software reserves capacity on disk (20a, 20b, 20c).
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for transmitting audio signals from an auxiliary source (16) such as a satellite broadcast receiver or a CD or cassette player to a radio receiver (24) located, for example, in a vehicle, using a wireless link (15). The apparatus comprises a scanning device for locating open radio frequencies in the RF spectrum of the radio receiver. The apparatus displays plural RF channel options on a display device (36) and provides a selection device (30, 32 and 34) with which a user selects an RF channel. The apparatus modulates the audio signals using the selected radio frequency, and the user tunes the vehicle radio receiver to the selected RF channel. The scanning device continuously scans for open RF channels and monitors the quality of the RF channel already selected for use as the wireless link. The apparatus provides the user with an indication to select another open channel when the RF channel in use degrades.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a receiving station for satellite television signals. The inventive system comprises an external unit, satellite receivers and television units on whose display screen a signal playback ensues. A satellite receiver control module is assigned to each television receiver. Said control module is provided for generating control signals for the satellite receiver.
Abstract:
A multiple data stream processing arrangement includes a receiver/signal processor (14) and a plurality of signal input paths (11, 12) which meet at a junction (36). A junction output from the junction (36) provides a single input to the receiver/signal processor (14). A switching arrangement (16) is associated with the plurality of signal input paths (11, 12). The switching arrangement (16) includes a switch (31, 32) connected in each signal input path (11, 12). Each switch (31, 32) responds to an enable signal to allow a data stream applied to the respective input path (11, 12) to pass on to the junction (36) and to the receiver/signal processor (14). According to the invention only one signal input path (11, 12) and respective switch (31, 32) is enabled at any given time.
Abstract:
The present industrial invention concerns a system for the distribution in a condominium and/or community environment of a plurality of television signals, and/or audio signals, and/or digital audio and/or video signals transmitted with different standards. According to the invention, one or more digital signals can be received by a single user of the system by means of a frequency conversion into a predetermined channel, which can be accessed by said user only. Moreover, the digital signal being present in said channel always has the same modulation and can be selected by said user through control means which send a control signal to selection means.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method using the forward error correction setting to enable simultaneous use of multiple modulation systems on terrestrial distribution networks including cable television system are described. The system includes a transcoder (44) having a demultiplexer (51) for demultiplexing a forward-error-correction decoded signal into a main data stream (52) with a bit rate suitable for 64-QAM cable transmission and an auxiliary data stream (53) with a bit rate approximately half that of the main data stream. Two of such auxiliary data streams can be combined to generate an output data stream with a bit rate suitable for 64-QAM cable transmission. The system also includes a satellite transmitter (31) which can adjust its convolution coding rate to either 1/2 or 3/4 for 64-QAM and 256-QAM cable channels respectively.
Abstract:
A method of and system for providing local direct broadcast satellite service by transmitting a plurality of local programming packages. The satellite (13) transmits the local programming packages to a plurality of geographically separate local ground areas (1a-1d; 2a-2d; 3a-3d).
Abstract:
A system and method enabling the concurrent provision of multiple multi-user band transmissions, each via a single cable, to a media gateway appliance, thereby providing the media gateway appliance with an increased array of user bands for the provision of program content. The multiple multi-user band transmissions can originate from a single multi-output single-cable interface, or from multiple single-output single-cable interface. This enables the switching fabric and internal tuners of a given media gateway appliance to select any one of the provided user bands and demodulate program content therefrom.
Abstract:
The invention relates to apparatus provided for the reception and transmission of data signals at one or more user locations. The data signals are received from and transmitted to remote locations typically via a satellite or cell phone transmission system. The operating condition of the apparatus at the user location selectively adaptable such as to take into account the particular format in which the data signals are received or are to be transmitted to thereby allow the apparatus to be used in different locations and adapted for use at the time of installation or at a time after installation with no, or minimal, intervention or skilled technical personnel attendance being required at the user location to allow the operation of the apparatus to be adapted.
