The present invention relates to a polymer bead material that are characterised by having pore sizes that can be pre-determined and that can be obtained with a narrow distribution of such pore sizes created by use of sacrificial filler materials within the polymer material. The invention also discloses processes for production of the material as spherical or approximately spherical beads or resins with predefined sizes. Also, the invention relates to the preparation of molecularly imprinted polymer materials that are created by the said method. Further the invention relates to the use of said polymer materials for separation, detection, catalysis or entrapment of chemicals, metal ions, inorganic compounds, drags, peptides, proteins, DNA, natural and artificial polymers, natural or artificial compounds, food or pharma products, viruses, bacteria, cells and other entities.

A monomer having a pair of hydroxy groups held in a fixed relationship (e.g. a dihydroxybenzene) is diesterified with a compound having a polymerisable group, e.g. to form a diacrylate. After polymerisation with a crosslinker, the polymer is hydrolysed. The dihydroxy-monomer is removed, leaving a polymer with pair of carboxyl groups held in spatial relationships determined by the dihydroxy monomer. Thus a range of subtly different polymers can be prepared by using different dihydroxy-monomer templates. The polymers are desirably swellable. They can be used as selective binding materials, e.g. in chromatography or analysis.

The present invention provides a method of producing non-yellowing high refractive beads and more particularly, it provides a method of producing non-yellowing high refractive beads comprising the steps of a) by dissolving 1) an aery late-based monomer, 2) a styrene-based monomer, 3) a stabilizer, and 4) an initiator in 5) a solvent and polymerizing them to prepare beads! b) washing the beads polymerized in step a); and c) drying the washed beads at a temperature lower than the glass transition temperature thereof, and non-yellowing high refractive beads produced by the same method. The method for the production of non-yellowing high refractive beads of the present invention makes it possible to prepare organic polymer beads showing no yellowing phenomena while having a high refractive index of not less than 1.5, and the non-yellowing high refractive beads prepared according to the invention are especially suitable to be applied to display fields such as light diffusion films.

The use of these materials for separation of nucleic acids, particularly a one-step isolation of DNA from lysates of different biological sources, is an object of the invention as well as a chromatographic column or cartridge at least partially filled with the sorbent material of the invention, a membrane-like device comprising the sorbent material of the invention, and a kit comprising the sorbent material of the invention in bulk or packed in chromatographic devices as well as other devices necessary for performing sample preparations.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Adsorbermaterial für spezielle Blut-, Blutplasma- und Albuminreinigungsverfahren sowie ein Verfahren zu seiner Herstellung. Das erfindungsgemäße Adsorbermaterial ist ein hochvernetztes, hochporöses, kugelförmiges Divinylbenzen-Copolymer, das 4 bis 30 Ma% eines radikalisch einpolymerisierten Vinylimidazol-Monomeren enthält. Das Adsorbermaterial ist biokompatibel, und geeignet, freie und albumingebundene Giftstoffe, Drogen, Pharmaka, endogene und exogene Toxine aus dem Blut, Blutplasma bzw. einem externen Albuminkreislauf mit hoher Geschwindigkeit und Kapazität zu entfernen. Es ist besonders geeignet für die Adsorption von Bilirubin und Gallensäuren. Das erfindungsgemäße Adsorbermaterial wird durch Suspensionspolymerisation hergestellt.
