Abstract: Methods for extracting gold from ores are disclosed. A solution of iodine and potassium iodide (102) dissolves the gold from the ore in a reaction pond (104). A filter unit (120) is positioned between the solution supply and the pond. Liquid solution product is withdrawn by pump (162) and includes unreacted KI3 and KI and a dissolved gold iodide complex. The liquid product passes to a heat exchanger (166) and then to a crystallization tank (170) which uses an evaporative cooling unit (171) to lower the temperature in the tank. In the tank a precipitate Au.KI3 (180) forms which is removed by a vacuum filter (182). The precipitate is combined with water until it is dissolved and as a result AuI crystals (202) are formed which are then separated from the remaining solution (204) which is dissolved KI and I2.

Abstract: A tray (10) having wells or depressions (12, 14) therein for holding a medicament (24) and an applicator (20). The applicator well (14) has one open end from which a portion of the applicator (20) extends. A cover (26) seals the entire surface of the tray (10). The portion of the applicator (20) extending beyond the applicator well (14) acts as a lever to pry the cover (26) form the body of the tray (10). The dispenser or package permits small quantities of material (24) to be easily dispensed for a single use or a single patient dose. Retaining structures (16, 18) are provided for securing the applicator (20) by friction fit within the applicator well (14). In another embodiment, a hinged cover (526) is used in combination with a tray (510) having multiple material wells (512) which may be jointed or separately opened and closed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided and include a charging circuit, a converter network, and a voltage regulator. The voltage regulator couples the charging circuit to the converter network. When the system is in the communication mode, the voltage regulator is configured to limit an amount of voltage discharge from the charging circuit, and the converter network is configured to receive the serial communication signal and convert the serial communication signal to a second signal having a second type. The second type has a different communication protocol than the serial communication signal. When the system is in the communication mode, the converter network is configured to transmit the second signal to a remote device.

Abstract: A Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Bag is provided which is a medical supply bag specifically designed to provide emergency supplies to emergency medical technicians in the event of a mass casualty event such as in a public gathering. The MCI bag is designed to allow two medical technicians to treat two or more patients each. The MCI bag is a two- sided, two bag configuration and is designed with identical sets or substantially identical sets of supplies in each bag with some specialty supplies housed in a interconnecting center portion of each bag, where they can be accessed and shared by the two technicians. In one embodiment, the MCI bag is equipped with individual flood lights for each technician to illuminate the accident scene and his patients without the need for hand held flashlights or head lamps. Also provided are a system comprising MCI carts designed to carry multiple MCI bags, and a method of responding to a Mass Casualty Incident, where the method comprises positioning prior to an incident or deploying after an incident, a plurality of MCI carts, each containing a plurality of MCI bags, around the event or incident area.
