Abstract:
The invention relates to a transdermal analyte monitoring system comprising a medium adapted to interface with a biological membrane and to receive an analyte from the biological membrane and an electrode assembly comprising a plurality of electrodes, wherein the medium is adapted to react continuously with the analyte, an electrical signal is detected by the electrode assembly, and the electrical signal correlates to an analyte value. The analyte value may be the flux of the analyte through the biological membrane or the concentration of the analyte in a body fluid of a subject. The medium may comprise a vinyl acetate based hydrogel, an agarose based hydrogel, or a polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEG-DA) based hydrogel, for example. The surface region of the electrode may comprise pure platinum. The system may include an interference filter located between the biological membrane and the electrode assembly for reducing interference in the system. The system may comprise a processor programmed to implement and error correction method that corrects for sensor drift.
Abstract:
The test set has a support (1) with an absorbent material (2) for collecting the body fluid and with a substance (4) that dissolves in the body fluid and provokes a certain reaction by the body and/or its microorganisms. The test set also has a device for determining medically relevant properties of the body fluid collected. The economical test set is designed to be used by the medical layman in a simple, quick and reliable operation and provides what is known as a provocation test.
Abstract:
A method and device for collecting immunoglobulins and other analytes from the oral cavity for immunological and other testing. The device is a treated absorbent pad used to collect a specimen having a high concentration of immunoglobulins or other analytes. The specimen can be subjected to a basic immunological testing technique which can be used as a tool for screening a patient for diseases. A test kit is also provided.
Abstract:
Apparatus (2) for testing a liquid specimen, which apparatus (2) comprises: (i) a container (4) for the liquid specimen; (ii) a lid (6) for closing the container (4) after the liquid specimen has been provided in the container (4); (iii) first securing means (8) by which the lid (6) is secured to the container (4); (iv) a test capsule (10) for securing to the lid (6) when the lid (6) is on the container (4); (v) second securing means (12) by which the test capsule (10) is secured to the lid (6); and (vi) a response chart (14) which is operable in response to contact with the liquid specimen, and the apparatus (2) being such that: (vii) the lid has an openable portion (18) which when opened permits a liquid specimen in the container (4) to enter the test capsule (10); (viii) the test capsule (10) has opener means (20) for opening the openable portion on the lid (6) when the test capsule (10) is secured to the lid (6); and (ix) the response chart (14) is inside the test capsule (10) and is contacted by the liquid specimen when the liquid specimen enters the test capsule (10).
Abstract:
The invention provides oral engagement assemblies and methods of using the oral engagement assemblies. In a general aspect, the oral engagement assembly includes a mouthpiece comprising a handle and a support attached to the handle. A diagnostic receptacle is insertable into the mouth-piece to form the oral engagement assembly. One or more diagnostic sensors can be fixedly or releasably inserted into the diagnostic receptacle. The invention also provides kits useful for making the oral engagement assemblies and using such oral engagement assemblies for diagnosing a condition or disease in the animal.
Abstract:
A device (1) is provided that is configured to indicate the presence or absence of one or more biological entities in a biological sample. The device comprises a sampling portion (11), the sampling portion comprising flexible material adjustably conformable to a part of a human or animal body, at least a portion of the sampling portion being absorbent and configured to receive a biological sample directly from the body; and a test portion (12) in fluid engagement with the sampling portion, the test portion comprising one or more test zones (14). The sampling portion and test portion are configured such that at least a portion of the sample received by the sampling portion is transferable to the test portion such as to contact one or more of the test zones, and wherein each test zone is configured to indicate the presence or absence of one or more biological entities in the sample.
Abstract:
Improvements in a diagnostic system for determining and/or monitoring a physiological condition in a female mammal. The system includes hardware and software, and comprises algorithms for the recognition of predetermined patterns of data values, said algorithms being applied to said current daily data value and said stored daily data values by said microprocessor means, said microprocessor means controlling said display means to display characters representing one of several states of the mammal in response to recognition of a corresponding one of said predetermined patterns, wherein the algorithms are capable of automatically determining variables that can be used to define the beginning of the fertile cycle of the mammal, the end of the fertile cycle of the mammal and the most fertile day of the mammal the improvements of the present invention involve a novel user interface providing display of the physiological condition over time to the user.
Abstract:
A lancet enclosed in a sterility sheet forms a lancet packet to maintain the sterility of the lancet and prevent the lancet from unintentionally piercing the sterility sheet prior to lancet actuation. In one form, the lancet is immobilized by hot tack welding a portion of the sterility sheet to the lancet. Alternatively, portions of the sterility sheet are hot tack welded together through an opening in the lancet to limit movement of the lancet.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a (bio-)chemical sensor cartridge (100) for the examination of samples like blood or saliva, which comprises a sample collection element (e.g. a swab (120)), a sensor element (130) for sensing a parameter of interest, a sample transportation mechanism (110) for transferring the sample from the sample collection element (120) to the sensor element (130), and a connector (140) for linking the device to an external reader. The sample transportation mechanism (110) may particularly comprise a reservoir (111) with a buffer liquid that can be transferred via the sample collection element (120) to the sensor element (130). Moreover, the cartridge preferably consists of two parts (101, 102) that can reversibly be connected.
