Abstract:

Abstract:
A vehicle body hinge mechanism includes at least one hinge set carried by a support plate that retains a pivot pin and a retainer bar in a cantilevered manner. Preferably, the plate is stamped, and the pivot pin supports a lever, such as a gooseneck arm, that will be coupled to the hood. The plate includes a mount that will be carried by peripheral body structure around the hood opening. The retainer bar carries a helically wound spring that secures one end of the spring for resistance to rotation about the axis of the bar. The other end of the spring engages a linkage that urges the lever to pivot toward the open position. Preferably, a stop limit is integrally incorporated in the linkage carried by the plate to stop the lever at a desired hood opening limit.
Abstract:
A hinge assembly for use with a pivotally movable closure panel is operable to provide a counterbalancing force to lock or hold the closure panel in an open configuration against a predetermined threshold closure force without the need of separate support components such as gas-charged struts or prop rod. The hinge assembly is provided with upper and lower hinge arms which are pivotally connected towards their rearward ends for movement relative to each other for pivotal movement about a hinge pivot axis. A generally elongated or guide slot is formed in the lower hinge arm. A prop arm is pivotally secured at a first end to a forward portion of the upper hinge arm forwardly from the hinge pivot axis. A sliding member is secured toward the second other end of the prop arm and engages the guide slot so as to be reciprocally movable therealong as the hinge arms are moved between a fully closed and fully open positions. The guide slot includes an operational section and an engaged section. A resilient biasing member is used to engage and bias the sliding member forwardly relative to the guide slot as it moves through the engaged section while disengaging from or passively engaging the sliding member as it moves along the operational section of the guide slot.
Abstract:
A hinge (3) for a front bonnet (1) of a motor vehicle; the hinge (3) is provided with a mobile bracket (4) , which is rigidly connected to the front bonnet (1) , and a fixed bracket (5) , which presents an elongated shape, is hinged to the mobile bracket (4) at a rotation axis (6) of the hinge (3) , and is rigidly connected to a frame (2) of the motor vehicle by means of two fastening screws (7, 8) arranged through two through holes (9, 10) ; the rotation axis (6) is arranged at a first end of the fixed bracket (5) , a first through hole (9) presents an elongated shape and is arranged at a second end of the fixed bracket (5) , and a second through hole (10) presents a circular shape and is arranged in an intermediate position between the two ends of the fixed bracket (5) ; the first hole (9) is engaged by a first fastening screw (7) which is tightened to the frame (2) with calibrated and limited tightening torque so as to allow a rotation of the fixed bracket (5) about a second fastening screw (8) in case of a collision against the front bonnet ( 1 ) at the hinge ( 3 ) .
Abstract:
A link assembly forming a 6 bar linkage is integrally combined with a spring having a laterally coiled strand to form a hinge that is particularly well adapted to be installed in a small footprint. Such a unit is well adapted for installation within a peripheral channel of a vehicle body opening and to prop the closure in its open position. The present invention also provides a method for reducing packaging footprint of a vehicle closure hinge by integrating the 6 bar linkage with the laterally coiled strand, and selecting a strand shaping to reduce radial dimension of the coil and the coil cross-section while maximizing the radial dimension of material in the strand.
Abstract:
