A method of imparting sustained antimicrobial properties throughout a material or substrate using an antimicrobial polymerizable silicon-containing quaternary ammonium salt monomer in a solvent to form a quaternary ammonium salt solution; and mixing the silicon- containing quaternary ammonium salt solution with at least a second monomer or a polymer or coating a solid polymer. Depending on the nature of the second monomer or polymer and the reaction conditions; a copolymer with the first monomer or a homopolymer will form, such that a polymeric material, substrate or formed plastic product comprising the copolymer or homopolymer or blended with the coated concentrate will have sustained antimicrobial properties. This method can be used to make formed plastic products, thin layer films and other products having sustained antimicrobial properties.

Coating composition, articles, and methods for applying reactive silanol coating compositions having electron deficient surfaces formed as the coating composition cures wherein organic radical groups from the silanes are forced to the surface of the coating. The silicon atoms in the interpenetrating siliconoxygen structure below retain electrons skewing the electron cloud downward creating an electron deficient or net positively charged surface. The resultant surface exhibits self-sterilization without toxic biocide additives due to the electron deficient surface. The surface is also extremely tight and thereby absent nutrients for microorganisms, discouraging organic growth such as mold. This unique positively charged surface further exhibits both hydrophobic and oleophobic qualities providing ease of cleaning for maintenance, particularly for hospital beds, equipment, floors, walls, curtains, bathrooms, or all the surfaces inside and outside of an ambulance and the equipment contained therein. Similarly, buildings and their contents, construction materials, and infrastructure can be made self-decontaminating and greatly simplify cleaning from potential bio-warfare agents.

This invention relates to the agents for regulating gametophytic self-incompatibility (SI), which inhibit a style-specific S RNase promoting gametophytic self-incompatibility. The invention includes the agricultural composition of the agent of zinc(II) complexes and/or copper(II) complexes for the breakdown of the gametophytic SI of nearly one-half of all the families of angiosperms, including the Rosaceae (apples, pears, cherries, almonds, plums, mango, etc), the Solanaceae (tomatoes, petunia, potatoes, tobacco, etc), the Scrophularaceae, and many grasses. The invention also includes a control method for regulating and suppressing gametophytic SI of a gametophytic self-incompatible plant with the agents, and a control method for the production of novel self-pollinated seeds that are produced by the regulation agents.
