The present invention relates to the use of at least one (hetero)polyoxometalate for simultaneously imparting antimicrobial properties to a surface of a substrate and reducing the growth of a biofilm on the surface of the substrate. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a substrate comprising a (hetero)polyoxometalate or a mixture of (hetero)polyoxometalates, wherein the substrate is selected from a polymer body, paint, varnish and coating.

The present invention teaches a bedside table with a disposable hygienic tray which has thereon multiple layers of film. Each layer of film in turn has adhesive, or anti -bacterial compounds, or bacterial detection compounds, or combinations thereof. In use, for example in a hospital, health care setting, home care setting or for home or many other contexts of use, each layer is removed in sequence, exposing a new layer underneath. After a suitable period of usage, the new layer is in turn removed to expose yet another later. When the final layer is removed the disposable tray is removed from the bedside table and replaced with a fresh tray. In embodiments, the core bedside table unit may sit on the floor, mount to a wall rail, or may have a projection dimensioned and configured to pass between the bottom of a mattress and the top of a box spring.

Provided is a system enhancing control of bacterial growth by combining antimicrobial additives and surface micro-structure patterns on outer surfaces of a device, such as a lighting fixture. The system physically decreases bio-adhesion between microbes and substrates applied to the outer surfaces. The system combines a surface micro-structured component with an antimicrobial component to generate a single component.

A disinfectant appliance has a plurality of chlorite absorbent particles, a plurality of redox resin particles, and at least one absorbent material combined such that the absorbent material allows and can promote: infusion of water into the disinfectant appliance; release of the chlorite from the chlorite absorbent particles into the water to form a chlorite comprising solution; contacting of the chlorite comprising solution with the redox resin particles; and the expulsion of CIO 2 comprising solution from the disinfectant appliance onto a surface to be disinfected. The disinfectant appliance can include a storage section and can include a handle. The disinfectant appliance can be in the form of a wipe or sponge that can be contacted with a surface suspected of being infected.

A method for decontaminating a biologically contaminated fluid, comprising the steps of: providing a substrate comprising an open-cell foam at least substantially coated with a solution consisting essentially of an organo-functional silane-based quarter-nary ammonium salt at a concentration of between approximately 0.10 percent to approximately 3.7 percent in water; at least substantially drying said solution on said substrate; placing said coated substrate in a container; introducing into said container a fluid to be decontaminated; and agitating the container for a period of time sufficient to substantially biologically decontaminate said fluid.

A delivery device is described for intermittently delivering materials such as liquids or gels over a sustained period of time to a surface in a controlled way. The surface mountable delivery device is capable of delivering, for example, an antimicrobial agent to protect surfaces from microbial contamination and/or to disinfect surfaces, e.g. door handles, push plates, hand rails, etc. as an aid in preventing and/or hindering the spread of infectious agents. In one arrangement the device utilises a foam based reservoir in combination with a nonwoven fabric wicking layer and an elastomeric liquid delivery contact layer having valve like pore and/or slits; the combination provides for control of material delivery and longevity for the device in use.
Abstract:
A multi-layered filtration medium for detoxification of chemical contaminants and disinfection of biological contaminants. The filtration medium includes two disinfection nanofiber layers and one detoxification nanofiber layer disposed between the two disinfection nanofiber layers. The filtration medium is loaded with high content of a detoxifying material which capable of achieving about 95% detoxification efficiency with no leaching of the detoxifying material. The filtration medium may also include a medicinal substance for medical applications and a sensor for indicating the lifetime of the filtration medium.
