A water faucet for the supply of germ-free water for human consumption comprises a faucet housing which is spatially separated from a water pipe that is arranged within the faucet housing. A contact protector with overflow openings is provided on a water outlet end of the faucet housing. The overflow openings prevent contaminated water from entering into the faucet, even if the water outlet of the faucet were to be blocked. An aerator is fastened on a discharge end of the water pipe inside the faucet housing. An air-gap is provided between the aerator and the water outlet opening of the contact protector. Internal surfaces of the faucet housing and of the contact protector are coated with a photocatalytic material such as titanium dioxide and are exposed to UV-A light from an ultraviolet light source while and after water is flowing through the water pipe.

An inventive touch faucet device for coupling to a pressurized fluid supply is provided that includes a faucet with a depressible touch surface segment and an outlet, where a mechanical touch mechanism is actuated by the touch surface, and induces a fluid flow from the pressurized fluid supply through the outlet in response to a user depression of the touch surface segment. The touch faucet device may further include a mixing valve for control of fluid temperature and flow rate. The mechanical touch mechanism in embodiments of the inventive touch faucet device includes an activation knob in an activator mechanism that is actuated by pressure applied by the touch surface, and a hydraulic valve in mechanical communication with the activator mechanism, the activator mechanism controlling the hydraulic valve.

A water tight connection can be established between the mounting base and the spout by plugging the spout into the base. A seamless spout construction defining a hollow interior bifurcated by integral internal wall structure provides a wet chamber between its mounting end and the outlet and a flow pipe (103) inside the spout. The modular base provides a cooperating flow pipe (127). When the spout is mounted onto the base, the flow pipes (103, 127) are configured to nest together in close relation such that one or more seals (123) can be disposed between the flow pipes to provide a water tight seal between the spout and base.
