Abstract: Solvents that are suitable for use with polyurethane-polyurea based rheology modifying agents of the type which, in the past, have generally been formulated as solids or viscous liquids. The present solvents enable the rheology modifying agents to be prepared and formulated in a liquid or solution form more suited to prepare coating formulations that include polyurethane-polyurea based rheology modifying agents. The present solvents are N-alkyl substituted caprolactams, including N-methyl caprolactam, N-ethyl caprolactam, N-butyl caprolactam, and mixtures thereof, which are aprotic, non-toxic, have good solvency for polar groups such as those found in polyurethanes and polyureas, are thermally stable, and have high boiling points and low vapor pressure.

Abstract: Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft wässrige uretdiongruppenhaltige Zusammensetzungen, umfassend oder bestehend aus, (A) mindestens einen uretdiongruppenhaltigen Härter, basierend auf aliphatischen, cycloaliphatischen, araliphatischen und/oder aromatischen Polyisocyanaten, welcher keine chemisch gebundenen hydrophilierenden Gruppen enthält; (B) mindestens ein Polyacrylatcopolymer; (C) gegebenenfalls Lösemittel; und (D) gegebenenfalls Hilfs- und Zusatzstoffe; wobei das Mengenverhältnis der Komponenten (A) und (B) so bemessen ist, dass das molare Verhältnis von den als Uretdion vorliegenden NCO-Gruppen des Härters (A) zu NCO-reaktiven Gruppen des Polyacrylatcopolymers (B) 3 : 0,5 bis 0,5 : 3 beträgt und wobei A und B als physikalische Mischung vorliegen. Darüber hinaus betrifft die Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Polyurethanschicht unter Verwenden der wässrigen uretdiongruppenhaltigen Zusammensetzung der vorliegenden Erfindung, die daraus erhaltene Polyurethanschicht und ein Substrat, welches mit dieser Polyurethanschicht beschichtet oder verklebt ist.

Abstract: Polyester polyols for use in low-VOC polyurethane compositions are disclosed. The polyester polyols are the reaction product of at least one aliphatic polycarboxylic acid, at least one alkoxylated polyalcohol having a functionality of 2.0 or greater, and one or more polyalcohols other than an alkoxylated polyalcohol. The polyester polyols can be formulated into polyurethane compositions to obtain a polyurethane having a low VOC content. The polyurethane composition is particularly suitable for polyurethane coating applications.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a polymeric material including a reaction product of a polymerizable composition and having a solids content of 90% or greater. The polymerizable composition includes a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself, a first hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, and a second hydroxyl-containing compound having more than one OH group. The first hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol, plus the second hydroxyl-containing compound is a diol and the reaction product contains 0.2 to 0.5, inclusive, of diol equivalents relative to isocyanate equivalents. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part includes at least one amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions according to the present disclosure can be used as coatings and adhesive systems with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water.
