Abstract:
The invention concerns an element comprising: a sheet (1) including an intermediate zone (29) located between two zones designed to form side walls (9, 11), the intermediate zone (29) being designed to form a flap folded along the tip against one first (9) of the side walls, and means (51a, 51b) for guiding tears in the sheet (1) said means forming a single pull tab (58) to cause tears, the pull tab (58) being, in the intermediate zone, spaced apart from the median axis (A) of the zone designed to form the base (3). The invention is, for example, applicable to packaging of melted cheese.
Abstract:
A method for making a microstructure includes: providing a film (100) on a release liner (110); feeding the film through a cutting plotter (10); cutting the film with a knife blade (34) of the cutting plotter to form a microstructure pattern; peeling the microstructure pattern from the release liner; and transferring the microstructure pattern to a substrate (170). The cutting plotter for making microstructures includes a knife head with a knife blade disposed adjacent a feed mechanism (20), a motor (42) and control system coupled to the knife head for selectively moving the knife head in relation to the film, and the control system and the knife head having an addressable positioning resolution less than approximately 10 μm.
Abstract:
A split ring alignment ring for holding a punch has a split ring by which the alignment ring can be tightened onto the punch shaft. The alignment ring has a pair of radially aligned cut outs, on its inner circumference and are on its out circumference. A pin on the tool shaft engages the inner cut out to fix the tool against rotational movement relative to the ring. A second pin projects axially from the top of a punch point of the tool to engage the outer cut out, also to prevent rotational movement relative to the ring.
Abstract:
A contour follower includes a plurality of sensors spaced around a waterjet nozzle, each of the sensors being configured to measure a distance between a working surface and a first plane, perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the nozzle. The sensors may include hall-effect sensors lying in the first plane and magnets lying in a second plane, parallel to the working surface. A detecting circuit processes signals from the sensors to determine an angle of the working surface, relative to the first plane, and a distance between an aperture of the nozzle and the working surface. A collision detection sensor provides a signal in the event the device approaches to within a selected distance of an obstruction in the plane of the working surface. A shield plate blocks and dampens secondary spray-back of cutting fluid occurring at low angles above the working surface.

Abstract:
A graphic arts die and support plate assembly is provided that is adapted to be mounted as a unit on the chase of a flat bed or rotary graphic arts press. The assembly includes a plurality of spaced individual dies fixedly mounted in predetermined relative relationship on a support plate member of the unit. Alignment holes in each die that register with orifices in the support plate member are adapted to receive temporary alignment pins thereby assuring correct positioning of the dies with respect to one another on the support plate member until the dies are affixed to the support plate member. Makeready and die lock-up time of the press is significantly decreased because all dies of the assembly may be preregistered with a design artwork before mounting of the die and support assembly on the press. A series of graphic arts die units are also provided that are adapted to be mounted as an assembly encompassing more than 180° of the circumference of a rotary press chase. The graphic arts die units have die support plate members that may be aligned with indicia on the press chase, and that have notch structure receiving a tool for facilitating alignment and spacing between adjacent die support plate members. Cutouts in the die support plate members permit manual selective shifting of a die relative to the die support plate member therefor using a tool received in a cutout and engageable with the die.

Abstract:
A steel rule cutting die(20) is provided and includes a baseboard(22), and cutting knifes(24) including an integral cross member(32) having holes(36) having a first diameter. The cutting knifes(24) may be bent to form an enclosed cavity(25). Fasteners(38) including a head(42) and a shaft(40) having second and third diameters, respectively, are provided, and are disposable within the hole(36) in the cross member for connecting the cutting knife(24) to the baseboard(22). Washers(44) including a fourth outer diameter and a hole(45) having a fifth diameter, are provided. The first diameter may be greater than the third diameter, the second diameter may be greater than the fifth diameter, and the fourth diameter may be greater than the first diameter, such that, when the washer(44) is disposed under the fastener head(42), the washer(44) prevents the head(42) from entering the hole(36) in the cross member(32), and facilitates translation of cavities(25) parallel to the baseboard(22).
