Abstract:
An adapter (18) is described for providing a communications interface between a card (1a) comprising a memory (7) and a computer. The adapter comprises: a contact surface comprising one or more electrically conductive contacts (23) and a connector (24) for connecting the adapter to the computer. The connector is electrically coupled to the one or more contacts and a clip (30) is adapted to mechanically couple the adapter to the card such that the contact surface of the adapter is held against a contact surface of the card. In addition, one or more datum protrusions (38,40) extend from the adapter.

Abstract:
A card reader receives an indication that a device has been plugged into a socket of the card reader. Power is provided to the socket in accordance with a first type of device. An attempt to communicate with the device is made in accordance with a first type of device protocol. If the communication attempt is not successful, power is provided to the socket in accordance with a second type of device, and communications commence with the device in accordance with a second type of device protocol.
Abstract:
A method for integrating multiple data transmission interfaces on a smart card comprises: carrying out signal multiplexing for pins C4, C6 and C8 unused by the signal of an ISO/IEC7816 interface based on the communication protocol of the ISO/IEC7816 interface, and integrating the multiple high-speed data interfaces in the three pins; controlling and transmitting the high-speed data interfaces and the ISO/IEC7816 interface separately by using a dual bus structure, wherein the high-speed data interface and the ISO/IEC7816 interface can work by themselves/independently, and they also can transmit data simultaneously/cooperatively; and identifying the input signals of the high-speed data interfaces, determining their interface types and their communication protocols, strobing and starting up the operating circuits of the corresponding high-speed data interfaces, and turning off the operating circuits of the other high-speed data interfaces by the smart card. A novel smart card is also provided.
Abstract:
An adapter (30, 40, 41, 44, 45, 50, 63, 85) for coupling to a portable device (10) having a substantially card-shaped body, includes a casing (31) adapted for mechanical attachment to the portable device, and supporting an electronic circuit (86). A set of FCCS compatible contacts (88) coupled to the electronic circuit (86) is accessible from at least one outer surface of the casing for connecting the electronic circuit to an external device.
Abstract:
A portable music device (PMD) (110) for capturing song tags while monitoring a broadcast via Internet (106) or radio (102), either on the PMD (either via an Internet connection or via a built- in FM radio receiver), or on a nearby radio (by detecting the station to which the nearby radio is 0 tuned). The user can use the captured song tags to download song files, either from an Internet music vendor (118) or in a physical music shop (104). Song tags may be ID3-type tags modified to include a link to a web address of a server for downloading songs. The PMD may also store credits for paying for the songs, and may include a contactless interface (212) for secure payment.
Abstract:
A thin peripheral devices for mating with electrical connectors where the thickness of the device is less than the dimensions needed for mechanical engagement with the connector, has a body including electronic circuitry and a selectively deployable plug arrangement. The plug arrangement includes a first plug portion including a plurality of electric contacts and a second plug portion. At least part of the plug arrangement is selectively displaceable relative to a remainder of the body between a non-deployed configuration wherein the entire plug arrangement lies within a thickness dimension of the body and a deployed configuration wherein the first and second plug portions together define an effective plug having thickness greater than the thickness dimension of the body for mating with the electrical connector.
Abstract:
