Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to crystallizing a chemical substance(s) using ultrasound. Methods are provided for screening a chemical substance according to its solid forms by using ultrasound to generate new or unusual solid forms. Methods are also provided for crystallizing a chemical substance by novel techniques that include sonication. The present disclosure also relates to cocrystallization using ultrasound. Methods are provided for preparing cocrystals of an active agent and a guest by sonicating and crystallizing. Methods are also provided for screening a sample according to solid state phases (such as cocrystals and salts) and include generating a cocrystal from the sample using ultrasound.
Abstract:
A method of operating an analyte separation instrument (10, 14) is provided. The instrument (10, 14) has a first gate (G1) and a second gate (G2-GF) separated by a distance. The first gate (G1) is activated to allow entrance of a packet of a mixture of analytes from an analyte source (12) therein. The packet of analytes is allowed to separate between the first and second gates (G1, G2-GF) as a function of a first analyte characteristic. The second gate (G2-GF) is activated at a plurality of successive discrete time periods after activating the first gate (G1) and before reactivating the first gate (G1) to allow passage therethrough of a corresponding plurality of discrete analyte groups separated from each of other according to the function of the first analyte characteristic.
Abstract:
Provided is a method for determining the presence or amount of 5-a-dihydro-3-keto steroids (ADKSs) comprising the steps of preparing a sample for chromatographic separation, subjecting the sample to chromatographic separation, subjecting the chromatographically separated sample to atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI), and detecting the amount of alkylated parent ions using mass spectrometry or methylated daughter ions by mass spectrometry after collisionally induced dissociation of the alkylated parent ions. Tandem mass spectrometry of ADKSs with a 6-member A ring and a 3-keto group using APPI and methanol as the alkoxy donor will produce methylated daughter ions with a mass/charge ratio of 85.0. Quantitation of this alkylated daughter ion provides a method to detect very low levels of ADKSs such as DHT. This method can also be used for the simultaneous detection of ADKSs and non-ADKSs.
Abstract:
A system and method for non-invasively inspecting one or more vessels capable of transmitting IR light containing liquid is provided, which uses a near-infrared (NIR) imaging device in combination with one or two NIR light sources, a diffuser plate, and an optical wavelength selecting means is provided for selecting one or more wavelength bands. In addition, the system may further comprise a computer processing means, a computer database containing known absorbance values, and a computer application, such that the system may compare the collected spectroscopic data to known spectroscopic data, and identify the liquid contained within the inspected vessel. The inspection method of the present invention measures a transmission or reflection image of one or more vessels being inspected at one or more narrow wavelength intervals in the NIR spectral range that corresponds to a peak absorbance wavelength of water, organic liquids, and explosive compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of identifying small molecule candidate agents capable of modulating transcription factor function such that the function/expression of a target transcription factor and/or proteins downstream of this target protein comprises the screening of small molecule libraries using in silico high throughput docking for candidate small molecules/agents that are selectively identified for their ability to target and disrupt the transcription factor-DNA interface through unique transcription factor and/or DNA descriptors that are defined within a pharmacophore, and then testing/evaluating the candidate agents identified above through one or more in vitro assays for their ability to modulate transcription factor function including expression of this target protein and/or proteins that are downstream of the target transcription factor.
Abstract:
An ink composition and method by which dissolved ozone which can be contained in a liquid to be examined can be more easily detected/determined with higher certainty. The method, which is for detecting dissolved ozone contained in a liquid to be examined, comprises (1) a step in which an ink composition for dissolved-ozone detection comprising at least one water-soluble dye selected among anthraquinone dyes, azo dyes, methine dyes, oxazine dyes, triarylmethane dyes, and xanthene dyes and water is dropped into the liquid to be examined and (2) a step in which the ink composition dropped is examined for a color change.
Abstract:
Red blood cells from a vertebrate are treated to make them effective components of a hematology control, allowing the control to be used for detecting all blood cell components, including white blood cells and platelets. The treatment includes the use of a fixative under limited conditions of concentration and exposure time, and the resulting red blood cells are stable but lysable in a hematology instrument and have a reduced tendency to form particulates.
Abstract:
An apparatus and methods for dispensing sample holders for use in an automated sample analyzer is disclosed herein. The apparatus for dispensing sample holders includes a rotating carousel for housing stack of sample holders. Stacks of sample holders from the rotating carousel are fed into a chute where sample holders contact a set of rotating members having helical threads thereon. The helically threaded rotating members engage the sample containers and separate each sample holder from the remaining sample holders in the stack by rotation of the helically threaded rotating members. The sample holder can then be transferred for use in an automated sample analyzer.
