Abstract:
The plan CT is described to generate dual energy (DRR) that stimulates the treatment time radiographs in order to prospectively evaluate the angles in which issues for the template matching algorithm are present, and thus the visibility of the tumor. The present invention uses template matching to quantify the "trackability" of the target from different angles or directions. The peak-to-side lobe ratio is used to measure trackability. The results of this process influence treatment planning. For example, based on the outcome, either less or no dose is planned for the angles in which the location of the templates cannot be verified and thus, the tumor.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a determination apparatus for determining the pose and shape of an introduction element like a catheter within a living being, wherein the introduction element (12) is adapted to be used by a brachytherapy apparatus for introducing a radiation source (10) close to a target object (11) to be treated. A position determination element (27) like guidewire (20) with an electromagnetic tracking element (16) is introduced into the introduction element (12) such that it is arranged at different locations within the introduction element (12), wherein the positions of the position determination element (27) within the introduction element (12) are determined. The determined positions are then acquired depending on the determined positions for determining the pose and shape of the introduction element within the living being. This can lead to a determination procedure with reduced user interaction, thereby simplifying the determination procedure for the user.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for rotating shield brachytherapy. In an aspect, some of the systems and methods can be used to facilitate shield selection for use in rotating shield brachytherapy. In an aspect, the invention is a shielded needle or catheter system with a rotational controller for delivering radioisotope-based interstitial rotating shield brachytherapy (I-RSBT), In an aspect, I-RSBT needles can deliver dose distributions that can be non-radially symmetric about each needle, enabling reduced doses to sensitive normal tissues. Further provided are methods and systems for selecting an emission angle for use in S-RSBT and for sequencing the rotating shields. Further provided are methods and system for the multiple application of M-RSBT in a single setting.
Abstract:
This patent generally relates to developing treatment plans for use in external beam radiation therapy, and more particularly to a method, a system and a computer readable media that contains programming for the development of external beam radiation therapy treatment plans. Embodiments of the invention include (1) automatically setting beam angles based on a beam angle automation algorithm, (2) judiciously designing planning structures and (3) automatically adjusting the objectives of the objective function based on a parameter automation algorithm.
Abstract:
A method for reviewing a treatment plan including displaying list of at least one of a selected plurality of patients, institutions, and treatment plans associated with a treatment planning system, selecting at least one of the one or more patients, institutions, and treatment plans, querying treatment plan parameters associated with the selected one or more patients, institutions, and treatment plans, and generating a report file of the queried treatment plan parameters
Abstract:
A system for radiation therapy includes a radiation planning system. The radiation planning system includes a data processor that is adapted to receive information concerning an intended radiation treatment region of a body, receive a calculated initial energy released per unit mass for a plurality of locations within the body, compute a radiation dose at a plurality of locations within the radiation treatment region based on the calculated initial energy released per unit mass and including radiation dose contributions due to scattering from other locations within the body, and determine radiation therapy parameters for providing radiation treatment to the intended radiation treatment region based on the radiation dose computed at the plurality of locations within the radiation treatment region. Including radiation dose contributions due to scattering from other locations within the body take into account density discontinuities in the body.
