A method for the preparation of quasi-crystalline, porous inorganic and organic oxide materials possessing uniform framework-confined mesopores in the range 1 to 12 nm prepared using an organic silane, such as (RO)3SiR1. The method uses an interaction between various nonionic poly(oxyalkylene) polymer based surfactants and neutral inorganic oxide precursors at ambient reaction temperatures. Exemplary surfactants are alkyl-polyethylene oxides and alkylphenyl-polyethylene oxides. Exemplary inorganic oxide precursors are single metal and double metal alkoxides including tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS). Recovery of the template can be achieved through solvent extraction where the solvent may be water, an organic solvent, a mixture of organic solvents, or a mixture of water and organic solvent(s). The porous products produced may be used as absorbents, ion-exchangers, catalyst, catalyst supports or composites.

Dendrimers were directly and covalently attached to solid supports via siloxy bonds. After complexation with transition metals, the dendrimers were used as catalysts for hydroformylation and for carbon-carbon bond formation. The supported dendrimers were stable and easily separated from the reaction mixture.

The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of an alkene oxide by an alkene having 3 or more carbon atoms with an alkylhydroperoxide, using the catalyst described above.

The invention relates to a process for preparing an alkanone and/or alkanol by oxidizing an alkane with 3-30 C-atoms, using oxygen, to form an alkyl hydroperoxide, followed by a decomposition of the resulting alkyl hydroperoxide in the presence of a metal compound immobilized on a carrier, which carrier carries aliphatic or aromatic amine groups or sulphide groups. The process is preferably applied to cycloalkanes.
