A method for reducing nitrates, nitrites, and/or hydroxylaminc in water using a homogeneous reduced copper tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand catalyst complex. The method includes dissolving a copper(II) tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand pre-catalyst complex in water having an excess amount of nitrates, nitrites, and/or hydroxylamine therein. The dissolved copper(II) tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand pre-catalyst complex in the water is subjected to electrochemical reduction to form a homogeneous reduced copper tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand catalyst complex. The homogeneous reduced copper tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand catalyst complex reduces the nitrates, nitrites, and/or hydroxylamine in the water to compounds with nitrogen in a lower oxidation state with the homogeneous reduced copper tetra-substituted fluorinated pinacolate ligand catalyst complex.

A novel compound of formula (I) [SUP]-[[L]-[G]]a (I) in which L is a linking group, G is an aryl group having a leaving group LG selected from Cl, Br, I, sulfonate such as triflate, a diazo group, a nitrile, an ester and an alkoxy group and substituent Q is selected from H, NR2, OR, C02R, F, Cl, N02 CN and SUP is a support having a plurality of groups -[L]-[G] bound to the support is contacted with the liquid phase to bind the component to the compound I thereby forming a captured component which is separated from and may be returned to the liquid phase. The compound I is especially useful in binding homogeneous catalysts to remove it from a reaction medium and selectively returning the catalyst to the reaction medium at a later stage. The compound is particularly useful for cross-coupling reactions, for example in Suzuki reactions.

The invention also relates to a method for the production and use of compounds in a method for the production of ruthenium (II)-catalysts having general formulae (I) and (II) immobilized on inorganic oxide carriers. The invention further relates to the use of compounds having general formulae (I), (la), (II) and (IIa) as catalysts in organic and metalorganic synthesis. Said compounds can be used as catalysts in C-C coupling reactions, hydrogenations, isomerizations, silylations and hydroformylations. Die Erfindung betrifft immobilisierbare Ruthenium(II)-Katalysatoren der allgemeinen Formeln (I) und (II), die eine SiR' n (OR') 3-n tragende Gruppe an mindestens einem der beiden Anionen enthalten. Die Erfindung betrifft weiterhin ein Verfahren zu deren Herstellung und die Verwendung der Verbindungen in einem Verfahren zur Herstellung von auf anorganischen Oxid-Trägern immobilisierten Ruthenium(II)-Katalysatoren der allgemeinen Formeln (Ia) und (IIa). Gegenstand der Erfindung ist auch die Verwendung der Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formeln (I), (la), (II) und (IIa) als Katalysatoren in der organischen und metallorganischen Synthese. Sie können als Katalysatoren in C-C-Kupplungsreaktionen, Hydrierungen, Isomerisierungen, Silylierungen und Hydroformylierungen eingesetzt werden. Insbesondere dienen sie als Katalysatoren in Olefinmetathesereaktionen, wie der Kreuzmetathese (CM), Ringschlussmetathese (RCM), Ringöffnungsmetathese (ROM), Ringöffnungsmetathese-Polymerisation (ROMP), azyklische Dienmetathese-Polymerisation (ADMET) und En-In-Metathese oder in einer Kombination verschiedenartiger Metathesereaktionen.
