Abstract:
Disclosed are devices and methods capable of determining spatially resolved information from a biological sample including genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic information.
Abstract:
A cassette for retaining molecules during electrophoresis has a housing with a lane configured therein. The lane has a first elongate edge and a second elongate edge, and an elution module is configured to be received in the late to divide the lane into a first chamber and a second chamber. A first buffer reservoir is positioned adjacent the first elongate edge, and a second buffer reservoir is positioned adjacent the second elongate edge. The first side of the elution module facing the first chamber comprises a porous sterile filtration membrane. The second side of the elution module facing the second chamber comprises an ultrafiltration membrane that has a pore size to retain molecules during electrophoresis.
Abstract:
Embodiments herein include a scanning apparatus for detecting target particles present within a ferrofluid, where the scanning apparatus can be used in a microfluidic system. The methods and structures described herein also include, for example, a scanning device comprising an optical system, a first magnet disposed on a first side of the optical system, where the first magnet can be non-rotatable, a second magnet disposed on a second side of the optical system, opposite the first magnet, where the second magnet can be rotatable, and a lever arm coupled to the second magnet, where the lever is capable of rotating the second magnet.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to methods of forming a concentrated ferrofluid, and methods of using the concentrated ferrofluid. In some embodiments, these methods include filtering a ferrofluid comprising a plurality of magnetic nanoparticles, a surfactant and a continuous phase, where the ferrofluidic comprises a first density. The ferrofluidic is dried, where the magnetic nanoparticles and the surfactant remain, and where at least a portion of the continuous phase is removed. A slurry may be formed comprising the dried ferrofluid and the additional amount of the continuous phase. A colloidal suspension comprising a second density of the ferrofluid can be formed by ball milling.
Abstract:
Apparatus and means by which a polysaccharide or other heterogeneous polymer is concatenated with a nucleic acid polymer that is captured by a primer on a polymerase tethered to a bead trapped by a nanopore. The translocation of the nanopore by the polysaccharide or other heterogeneous polymer is then controlled by the speed at which the polymerase releases newly synthesized nucleic acid or slows the motion of the nucleic acid as it is pulled on by an electrophoretic field.
Abstract:
A sorbent cartridge retention frame configured for use in an air scrubbing system comprising a first inlet side, a second outlet side, a plurality of compartments each configured to hold a solid-sorbent material, a plurality of respective walls arranged to form and separate the plurality of compartments, a first permeable membrane arranged to cover the first inlet side, a second permeable membrane arranged to cover the second outlet side. The first and/or second permeable membrane are configured for affixation to respective ends of the walls through a process of melting and solidification of the wall material such that wall material bonds with the membrane material.
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the present disclosure present closed-loop heating, temperature-swing adsorption regenerative scrubbing systems and methods. In some embodiments, such embodiments include providing a scrubbing system including a sorbent material, a plurality of dampers for controlling airflow over and/or through the sorbent according to an absorption mode, a closed-loop heating mode and a flushing mode, first controlling of the plurality of dampers so as to establish flowing an indoor airflow over and/or through the adsorbent during the adsorption mode, second controlling of the plurality of dampers so as to establish a closed loop airflow during the closed-loop heating mode, and third controlling of the plurality of dampers so as to establish a purging airflow during the flushing mode.
Abstract:
A nucleic acid sample may be provided, and the sample may be treated by applying a first enzymatic nucleic acid modifying reagent to produce a first nucleic acid solution. A first protease reagent may be applied to the first nucleic acid solution to produce a second nucleic acid solution. The application of the first protease reagent may completely or substantially inactivate the first enzymatic nucleic acid modifying reagent. A first inhibitor reagent may be applied in order to produce a third nucleic acid solution, and the first inhibitor reagent may completely or substantially inactivate the first protease reagent.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the current disclosure are directed towards a smart garment comprising one or more sensors contained within the smart garment and configured to gather information about a wearer of the smart garment undertaking a physical activity. The garment may also include one or more actuators contained within and configured to provide haptic feedback to the wearer of the smart garment. The one or more sensors are configured to transmit the gathered information to a processing unit within the smart garment and/or an external processor for generation of instructions to provide guidance to the wearer of the garment on how to execute the physical activity. Further, the one or more actuators can provide haptic feedback to the wearer upon receiving the instructions from the processing unit and/or the external processor.
Abstract:
A sensing device is provided that includes a tunnel junction created by forming a hole in a layered tunnel junction (for example). A chemically, well-defined surface may be formed by coupling affinity reagents to the electrodes, which, by these means, the surface may be configured to be selective for a particular analyte.
