Abstract:
Improved compositions for treating dental pulp and root canals comprising a mixture of particulate materials with water-based liquids containing polyvinyl pyrrolidone are provided. Homopolymers and copolymers of polyvinyl pyrrolidone can be used. Optionally, the composition may contain surfactants, humecatants, stabilizers, and other additives. Examples of particulate powders include mixtures of calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, calcium sulfate, and hydroxyapatite. The compositions are particularly suitable for sealing and obturating dental root canals and root apices. The composition provides a stable barrier to bacterial and fluid leakage in the root canal system of a tooth.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a toothbrush which exhibits improved tooth and gum cleaning. The toothbrush includes an elongated handle member (24) connected to a toothbrush head member (12). A multiplicity of bristles (26) extends from the head member (12); these bristles (26) being comprised of at least two general directional orientations of bristles having a generally rectangular cross section.

Abstract:
Improved compositions comprising a mixture of particulate materials with water-based liquids containing water-soluble polymers and surfactants are provided. Examples of particulate powders include mixtures of calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, calcium sulfate, and hydroxyapatite. Examples of water-soluble polymers include polyvinyl alcohols, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetates, polyacrylic acid, and polymethacrylic acid. Surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate are added to the composition to interact with the polymeric materials. The compositions are particularly suitable for sealing and obturating dental root canals and root apices. The composition provides a stable barrier to bacterial' and fluid leakage in the root canal system of a tooth. In addition, the compositions help promote the growth of new bone and tissue surrounding the root-tip area or dentin tissue that covers an injured or amputated pulp.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a toothbrush which exhibits superior interproximal and gingival margin cleaning. The toothbrush includes an elongated handle member (12) connected to a toothbrush head member (14). The head is divided into a "toe" (20) and "heel" (22) region. A multiplicity of bristles (24) extend from the heel portion, the distal ends of these bristles form a longitudinally aligned concave shape (28) when viewed on end. A multiplicity of bristles (30) extend from the toe region of the head wherein these bristles are at least as tall as the general height of the bristels extending from the heel portion when viewed from the side and wherein the side profile view of the distal ends of the bristles extending from the toe portion form a generally linear surface which forms an angle relative to the general plane of the bristles extending from the heel portion.
