Abstract: The present invention is directed to pressure relief devices and to corresponding pressure relief assemblies that have improved vacuum resistance, improved fragmentation resistance, and/or improved burst control while maintaining low mass. The pressure relief device includes a substantially flat flange section and a domed section. The domed section may include a transitional line that defines a change in the shape of the domed section. The pressure relief device may also include a bracket for securing or aligning a domed section to a flange section. The pressure relief device may further include a stress distribution feature that is disposed transversely to a line of weakness in the domed section. The pressure relief assembly may include a fastener having a wire that is configured to break and release the pressure relief device when subject to a predetermined tensile load.

Abstract: A pressure relief device (10) with an integrally attached rupture disk (16) is disclosed. The pressure relief device includes a valve body (12). The valve body includes an inlet (18) and an outlet (20) defining a flow passage therebetween. A valve mechanism (14) is housed in the valve body and is movable between a closed position where it blocks the flow passage and an open position. A rupture disk configured to burst when exposed to a predetermined pressure is provided. The rupture disk is integrally attached to the valve body to prevent the pressurized fluid from flowing through the flow passage until it bursts. Integrally attaching the rupture disk to the valve body makes them a compact unit to be replaced and discarded together. The rupture disk may be integrally attached to the valve body by welding, soldering, brazing, crimping, or adhesive bonding.

Abstract: An improved rupture disk assembly and methods and apparatuses for forming a rupture disk are disclosed. The rupture disk assembly includes a rupture disk (44) that has a flange connected to a dome-shaped rupturable portion by a transition area and is sealed between a pair of support members (30, 32). The rupturable portion may include an indentation positioned at the apex of the dome and a score line having a first and a second end. Abstract: An improved pressure relieving rupture disk assembly (10) is provided which includes a rupture disk (20) having at least one perforation (26). Abstract: A system for monitoring a pressurized container is provided. The system includes a non-reclosing pressure release device (12) and an activating mechanism (13) configured to open the non-reclosing pressure release device. The activating mechanism is activated by a control (50), based on a signal received by the control from a sensor (14). The activating mechanism may be selected from a group including actuators, pyrotechnic devices, and solenoids. The system may also include a non- reclosing pressure release device that may be configured to inject a fluid into the pressurized container. The activating mechanism may be operated by a trigger. The non-reclosing pressure release device may be designed to open automatically in the event that the activating mechanism fails to respond.
