Abstract:
An electrical machine is provided comprising a first rotor (121), wherein the first rotor includes a support structure (163), a second rotor (131), a stator (141) and, wherein the first rotor, second rotor and stator are arranged concentrically about a shaft (50), and at least one of the second rotor and the stator is adapted to accommodate the support structure. An electrical machine is also provided comprising a shaft (50) having an axis, at least one first rotor (321), at least one second rotor (331), at least two stators (341a), (341b) and, wherein the first rotor, second rotor and stators are arranged axially along the shaft and extend from the axis.
Abstract:
A propulsion device for a marine vessel, the propulsion device comprising an electrical machine with integral magnetic gearing having a magnetic pole piece rotor connected to a drive shaft provided with a propulsion means for providing propulsion to the marine vessel.
Abstract:
A pole piece support comprising a frame having a spaced array of non- magnetic support structures (606), wherein disposed between at least a pair of adjacent non-magnetic support structures (606) is a magnetic pole piece (604) supported along at least a portion of its body by the adjacent non-magnetic support structures (606).

Abstract:
A propulsion device for a marine vessel, the propulsion device comprising an electrical machine (205) with integral magnetic gearing, which comprises three members, namely a first or inner rotor (102) comprising a first plurality of permanent magnets (106), a second rotor (107) in the form of a plurality of ferromagnetic pole pieces (108), and a stator (116) which is associated with a plurality of 3-phase windings (302) and to the periphery of which a plurality of second permanent magnets (110) are fixed. The magnetic pole piece rotor (107) is connected to a drive shaft (300) provided with a propulsion means (201) for providing propulsion to the marine vessel. The first or inner rotor (102) is free to rotate about the drive shaft (300). The pole pieces (108) of the second rotor (107) are arranged to magnetically couple the permanent magnets (106) of the first or inner rotor (102) to the second permanent magnets (110) on the stator (116).
