Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus and method of embossing a sheet (18) of material with a background pattern together with additional selectable indicia (80), wherein the method comprises the steps of removably securing an indicia bearing element (80) to a first one (34) of embossing rollers (34, 36), and removably securing a yielding element (142) to a second one (36) of embossing rollers (34, 36) passing the sheet material (18) through the nip (38) of rigid embossing rollers (34, 36) while synchronously moving the embossing rollers (34, 36), so as to impart a background embossed pattern to a first portion of the sheet material (18), and secondly imparting additional indicia to second portions of the sheet material by repetitively bringing into opposing relationship at the nip (38) the indicia bearing element (80), and the yielding element (142).
Abstract:
A system and process for monitoring a continuous element (50) being incorporated within a cigarette filter includes a light source and a photoresponsive device facing each other and on opposite sides of a measuring gap (27), and passing the continuous element through the measuring gap and detecting movement of the continuous element by the effect of the movement on at least one light beam present between the light source and the photoresponsive device.
Abstract:
A machine for folding and applying onserts onto consumer goods such as cigarette packs comprises a continuous roll of preprinted onserts and a transverse cutter assembly for cutting onsert segments from the continuous roll. Each onsert segment includes a pair of side-by-side preprinted onserts. A buckle folder receives each cut onsert segment and folds that segment along at least one transverse fold line. A longitudinal cutter assembly longitudinally cuts each folded onsert segment into two individual onserts. A transport system serially receives the individual folded onserts and moves the onserts along dual diverging paths where a pair of spaced apart lug belt conveyors receives the onserts from the discharge end of the transport system. Each lug belt conveyor includes spaced apart transverse lugs along the length thereof against which the onserts are positioned. A pair of spaced apart applicator wheels transfers the onserts from the conveyors onto spaced apart consumer goods traveling past the applicator wheels.
Abstract:
Systems, apparatus and methods for on-the-fly encryption of data storage on a computerized wagering gaming machine are described herein. In some embodiments, a method includes accessing, using an on-the-fly encryption operation, data from a nonvolatile data storage in a computerized wagering gaming machine.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for authenticating content in wagering game machines are described herein. In one embodiment, the computer-implemented method includes authenticating a first set of wagering game files stored on a storage device of a wagering game machine. The method can also include starting a wagering game on the wagering game machine if the authentication of the first set of wagering game files is successful. The method can also include authenticating, during the wagering game, a second set of wagering game files stored on the storage device of the wagering game machine, wherein the first set of wagering game files and the second set of wagering game files are mutually exclusive. The method can also include stopping the wagering game if the authentication of the second set of wagering game files is not successful.

Individual lengths of the continuous cigarette filter rod being produced can be selectively rejected based on a determination of whether the continuous element has a break or a knot along its length.
Abstract:
A filter making apparatus includes a positioning device having a passageway therethrough, with the passageway guiding a continuous flavor element (70) such as a continuous strand of textile material from an inlet of the passageway to an outlet of the passageway. A liquid flavorant (70) is introduced into the passageway at a desired flow rate and the strand of material carries the supplied liquid flavorant out of the positioning device at a rate substantially equal to the desired flow rate.
