Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to a plasticizer, polymeric compositions containing the plasticizer, and conductors coated with the polymeric composition. The plasticizer includes (i) an epoxidized fatty acid methyl ester, (ii) an epoxidized natural oil, and (iii) an epoxidized tallate ester. Polymeric compositions containing a polymeric resin and the plasticizer exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days. Conductors coated with the polymeric composition (containing the plasticizer) pass the low temperature unwind test of UL719 and exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days.

Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to a polymeric composition containing a vinyl chloride resin and an epoxidized fatty acid ester. The polymeric composition also includes a heat stabilizing composition. The heat stabilizing composition includes a first metal salt, a second metal salt, and a β-diketone. The epoxidized fatty acid ester is the primary, or the sole, plasticizer in the polymeric composition. The present polymeric composition finds advantageous application as a coating for wire and cable.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides propylene-based polymers which exhibit a strain hardening distribution factor that is less than zero and/or a strain hardening factor greater than 1.5. The propylene-based polymers are rheology-modified by way of silane coupling to improve melt strength.
Abstract:
Ethylene-vinylsilane copolymers are moisture-cured under ambient conditions using a synergistic combination of at least one Lewis acid and at least one Brønsted acid or at least one Lewis base and at least one Brønsted base. Preferably the catalyst system comprises a Lewis acid, e.g., dibutyltin dilaurate, in combination with a Brønsted acid, e.g., sulfonic acid. The Lewis acid or base and the Brønsted acid or base is present in the catalyst system at a molar ratio of Lewis acid/base to Brønsted acid/base of 1:10 to 10:1.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising a polymer resin comprising at least one copolymer with hydrolysablε groups, a water-generating meial salt hydrate, and a catalyst that comprises a metal atom and at least two ligands taken from the set alkyjoxy and carboxylate are used to form articles that moisture-cure through in-situ generation of water via dehydration of the metal hydrate. The compositions are melt mixed to promote the dehydration and start the cure process during the mixing step. The curing compositions are formed and allowed to harden.

Compositions comprising a polymer resin comprising at least one copolymer with hydrolysable groups, an amino acid or diearboxylic acid water-generating organic compound, and a catalyst that comprises a metal atom and at least two ligands taken from the set alkyloxy and earhcxylate are used to form articles that moisture-cure through in-situ generation of water via ring-closing dehydration reactions.
Abstract:
Scorch is inhibited during the free-radical crosslinking of a crosslinkable polymer, e.g., an EPDM, by incorporating into the polymer before melt processing and crosslinking a scorch inhibiting amount of a derivative, preferably an ether, ester or urethane derivative, of a TEMPO compound, e.g., 4-hydroxy-tetrahydrocarbylpiperidin-1-oxyl. The scorch inhibitors of this invention perform as well, if not better, than their 4-hydroxy- tetrahydrocarbylpiperidin-1-oxyl counterparts in similar polymer compositions and under similar conditions in terms of scorch inhibition and ultimate degree of crosslinking, but exhibit less volatility and less migration within the polymer composition.
Abstract:
