The present disclosure is directed to a halogen-free composition and conductors coated with the halogen-free composition. The halogen-free composition includes (A) from 70 wt % to 85 wt % of a polymeric component and (B) from 30 wt % to 15 wt % of a halogen- free flame retardant. The polymeric component (A) includes (i) a propylene homopolymer or a mini- random copolymer with greater than 40% crystallinity and (ii) an ethylene/a-olefin copolymer. The halogen-free composition has a density less than 1.15 g/cc. The halogen-free composition also has a scrape abrasion resistance of greater than or equal to 350 cycles as measured in accordance with ISO 6722.

The present disclosure is directed to a plasticizer, polymeric compositions containing the plasticizer, and conductors coated with the polymeric composition. The plasticizer includes (i) an epoxidized fatty acid methyl ester, (ii) an epoxidized natural oil, and (iii) an epoxidized tallate ester. Polymeric compositions containing a polymeric resin and the plasticizer exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days. Conductors coated with the polymeric composition (containing the plasticizer) pass the low temperature unwind test of UL719 and exhibit a weight loss less than 50 mg/cm 2 after exposure to 100°C for seven days.

The invention relates to the use of macromolecular organic compound carriers, such as cyclodextrins, in a controlled radical polymerization process in aqueous media. The process can be used with a nitroxide-mediated process, atom transfer radical polymerization or similar processes to form controlled architecture homopolymer and block polymers. The macromolecular organic compound carriers can also be used to form amphiphilic block polymers in aqueous media by several different controlled-radical polymerization processes. Further, the use of macromolecular organic compound carriers in an aqueous media controlled radical polymerization process presents a means for recycling of the macromolecular organic compound carrier and radical control agent.

Disclosed is a halogen-free, flame retardant thermoplastic resin composition based on polypropylene and one or more thermoplastic elastomers with an organic nitrogen- and/or phosphorus-based intumescent flame retardant comprising a piperazine component. The composition is processed easily to make a wire and cable sheath exhibiting a balance of high flame retardancy, good flexibility, high wet electrical resistance and excellent heat deformation properties, and which passes the VW-I flame retardancy test, the UL1581 heat deformation test at 150 °C and the wet electrical resistance test, and also exhibits good tensile and flexibility properties. Also disclosed is a wire and cable sheath made from the composition.

A composition comprising (A) at least one bisphenol-A polycarbonate resin, (B) at least one polypropylene, preferably a high crystallinity polypropylene, (C) at least one compatibilizer comprising an amine functionalized elastomeric polymer, (D) at least one organic phosphate flame retardant, preferably an organic phosphate that is liquid at room temperature, and, optionally, (E) one or more additives. These compositions are useful in the manufacture of wire insulation coatings of less than 0.2 mm with good scrape abrasion resistance.
