    Abstract: A haircare appliance has an air inlet, an air outlet, and an airflow generator for generating an airflow from the air inlet to the air outlet. The haircare appliance has a signal generator configured to generate a signal indicative of hair contacting the haircare appliance. The airflow generator comprises a first operating mode in which the airflow generator generates airflow at a first flow rate, and a second operating mode in which the airflow generator generates airflow at a second flow rate greater than the first flow rate. The airflow generator is configured to operate in the first operating mode in the absence of the signal and in the second operating mode in the presence of the signal.

    Abstract: There is provided a valve (200) for a reversible heat pump system, comprising six ports (202a- 202f) and three flow paths (204a, 204b, 206) for a refrigerant, the three flow paths being selectable between different pairs of the six ports, wherein: two of the three flow paths (204a, 204b) are non-restrictive flow paths; and one of the three flow paths (206) is a restrictive flow path. There is also provided a reversible heat pump system (300), comprising: the valve (200); a compressor (306); a process heat exchanger (302) having input and output sides through which refrigerant is supplied and discharged respectively; and a rejection heat exchanger (304) having input and output sides through which the refrigerant is supplied and discharged respectively, wherein the valve (200) interconnects the compressor (306), the process heat exchanger (302) and the rejection heat exchanger (304) such that a refrigeration cycle can be established.

    Abstract: A buck-boost converter is described that comprises input terminals, output terminals, a pair of first switches; a pair of second switches; a pair of third switches or diodes; an inductor, a capacitor, and a controller for controlling the switches. Each of the first switches is connected between a respective input terminal and a first terminal of the inductor, and each of the second switches is connected between a respective input terminal and a second terminal of the inductor. Each of the third switches or diodes is connected between a respective input terminal and a second terminal of the capacitor. A first terminal of the capacitor is connected to the second terminal of the inductor and an output terminal, and the second terminal of the capacitor is connected to another output terminal.

    Abstract: A buck-boost converter is described that comprises input terminals, output terminals, a first group of devices, a second group of devices, an inductor, a capacitor, and a controller. Each group of devices comprises a first switch, a second switch, and a third switch or diode connected in series. Each group of devices further comprises a first node located between the first switch and the second switch, and a second node located between the second switch and the third switch or diode. A first of the input terminals is connected to the first node of the first group of devices, and a second of the input terminals is connected to the first node of the second group of devices. The inductor is connected between the second node of the first group of devices and the second node of the second group of devices. The first group of devices, the second group of devices, and the capacitor are connected in parallel across the output terminals, and the controller controls the switches of the first group of devices and the second group of devices.
