摘要: The present invention is related to a procedure to convert polysaccharides to an oxidized derivative, in particular an oxidized derivative in which the two adjacent secondary alcohol functions are converted to a dialdehyde with cleavage of the connective carbon-carbon bond. More particular, the invention relates to a procedure to convert starch using a hypervalent iodoarene derivative as the oxidant to convert starch into an oxidized derivative wherein the hydroxyl groups at the C 6 position and the C 2 -C 3 position are oxidized. In an even further embodiment the present invention relates to a method to convert starch using a hypervalent iodoarene derivative such as bisacetoxyiodobenzene as the oxidant into dialdehyde starch (DAS) as the reaction product. The procedure also comprises a method to regenerate the spent oxidant.
