Abstract:
A substrate on which a single-layer carbon nanotube is formed is plated with copper, thereby forming a copper thin film containing a single-layer carbon nanotube on the substrate. A thin film formed in this manner using a certain metal can have higher performance than a metal thin film made only of the certain metal.
Abstract:
A battery charger outputs a high voltage even when the charger is not connected to a power unit provided with a rechargeable battery so that the charger can apply a high voltage to the power unit when the power unit is connected to the output terminal. The charger is provided with a periodic signal generating means which supplies a periodically changing periodical signal to the output terminal and a detecting means which judges whether or not the charger is connected to the power unit by detecting the periodic signal at the output terminal. Therefore, the battery charger can recognize the connecting state of the power unit even when the charger is provided with no mechanical switch.
Abstract:
Improved method of fabricating electrodes used, for example, in a nickel-cadmium storage battery. A paste mixture is sprayed from both sides onto a porous metal body which has three-dimensionally communicating spaces so as to pack the mixture which has been adjusted in advance into the spaces of the porous metal body with sufficient reproducibility, and readily control the quantity of active substance thus packed, and preform electrodes which have a desired capacity, by mass production.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods for identifying an agent which prevents or partially prevents an antitoxin from forming a complex with its cognate toxin, comprising contacting a potential agent with a labeled substrate in solution, whereby detection of the label indicates presence of an agent that prevents an antitoxin from forming complex with a toxin. The invention also provides agents capable of interfering with formation of a toxin-antitoxin complex. Such agents act as novel, non-conventional antibiotics against human pathogenic bacteria.
Abstract:
A device for preventing swinging of a hung load, according to the invention comprises movable frames (15) provided on right and left sides, respectively, of a traversing trolley (1) and movable relative to the traversing trolley (1) in a direction of movement of the traversing trolley (1), two sets of guide sheaves (13, 14) for winding up lengths of rope and fixedly provided in the movable frames (15) and spaced apart from each other, and moving means (17) for independently moving the respective movable frames (15) on the traversing trolley (1). The movable frames (15) (guide sheaves) are actuated by the moving means (17) provided on the both sides of the traversing trolley (1) to dampen transverse swinging of a load of the traversing trolley (1), swinging of respective skews or a combined swinging thereof. Accordingly, simplification of the device, readiness of control and an increased freedom with respect to arrangement of the device are attained.

Abstract:
A battery protective circuit is provided with an overcharge detecting circuit which detects the overcharging of a battery and a charge inhibiting circuit which inhibits the charging of the battery after giving prescribed delay time to an overcharge detecting signal by using a capacitance element. The charge inhibiting circuit can detect the short-circuit of the capacitance element for giving the delay time and, upon detection of the short-circuit of the capacitance element, inhibits the charging of the battery without providing the delay time. Therefore, the safety of a power unit is improved, because the charging of the battery is inhibited even when the capacitance element short-circuits.
Abstract:
A power supply provided with an overdischarge detecting circuit which detects the overdischarge of a lithium ion power supply unit, an overcurrent detecting circuit which detects the overcurrent, and a stopping circuit which stops the overdischarge or overcurrent based on an overdischarge detecting signal or overcurrent detecting signal. In order to prevent the malfunction of the overdischarge detecting circuit and overcurrent detecting circuit by external noise, a delay circuit is provided. The delay time of the delay circuit is variable and the delay time when the overdischarge is detected is longer than when the overcurrent is detected. Therefore, the overdischarge and overcurrent can be stopped accurately.
