Abstract: A method for hardening at a surface a component, the component being formed of a plastics material, comprises softening the component at a surface using carbon dioxide in a pressurised environment having a pressure of less than 74 bar, and incorporating into the component at the surface a material to harden the surface. There is also disclosed a device having one or more surfaces hardened by said method.
