Abstract: Points are grouped from a point cloud using Concavity-induced Distance (CID). First, a set of seed points is sampled from the input point cloud. Then a grouping of points is conducted based on a nearest neighbor search computed using CID. These two steps enable two novel solutions in point cloud segmentation and scene abstraction. In one embodiment, CID is determined between two points residing within an object surface. In a second embodiment, a CID is determined between groups of points.

Also disclosed are combinations therapeutic agents that include an antibiotic and/or biocide; and a NorA inhibitor, protein scaffold, or antibody-based as disclosed herein. Use of these agents for treating a Staphylococcus aureus infection, potentiating the therapeutic efficacy of an antibiotic or biocide, diagnosing a S. aureus infection, and detecting NorA in a non-clinical biological sample are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods of inhibiting reactive astrocyte mediated neuronal and/or oligodendrocyte cell death in a subject. In one embodiment, the method involves administering an inhibitor of Elongation of Very Long Chain Fatty Acids Protein 1 (ELOVL1) to a subject having or at risk of having a condition mediated by reactive astrocytes, where the ELOVL1 inhibitor is administered in an amount effective to inhibit reactive astrocyte mediated neuronal and/or oligodendrocyte cell death in the subject. In another embodiment, the method involves administering an inhibitor of lipoapoptosis to a subject having or at risk of having a condition mediated by reactive astrocytes, where the inhibitor of lipoapoptosis is administered in an amount effective to inhibit reactive astrocyte mediate neuronal and/or oligodendrocyte cell death in the subject.

Abstract: Provided are compositions and methods for using the compositions to modify eukaryotic chromosomes. The methods involve iteratively inserting DNA payloads into a chromosomal locus, or into multiple chromosomal loci. The methods utilize positive and negative selection approaches in combination with one or more recombinases to select cells that contain a payload, eliminate cells that do not contain a payload, and sequentially replace contiguous segments of the chromosome with subsequent payload insertions. Modified cells, and modified mammals containing modified cells, are included.

Abstract: The present invention provides individual nasal molding devices and methods of making and using the same. This novel technique of pre-surgical nasal molding therapy is ideal for all patients with unilateral and bilateral clefts, including medically compromised patients or patients living far from the cleft centers and periodic office visits are not practical. It is also ideal for patients with incomplete clefts with significant nasal deformity without the involvement of the alveolus or the palate. Postsurgery, the devices can also be used as a nostril retainer to prevent scar contracture and relapse of the primary correction of the nose. The nasal molding devices can be customized for each infant or be provided in standard sizes for ease of utilization and mass production.
