The present invention relates to a method for selective conjugation of bioactive moieties to a polymer or polymerisable compound. The method is more specifically related to the selective conjugation of bioactive moieties to a pendant carboxylic acid, ester or thioester group in which the pendant group is part of a polymer or a polymerisable compound, wherein the method comprises contacting the polymer or polymerisable compound with a hydrolytic enzyme to catalyse the conjugation between the bioactive moiety and the pendant carboxylic acid, ester or thioester group. The conjugation of the bioactive moieties may occur prior to, during or after polymerization of the polymerisable compound. The conjugation of the bioactive moieties may also occur after the polymer is given a form.

The invention also relates to the intermediate products formed in the process and in the preparation thereof. Lastly, the invention relates to functionalized polymers and polymer compositions containing the functionalized polymer.

The invention relates to a process for preparing a high-molecular polyamide or polyester or copolyester by melt-mixing polyamide or polyester or copolyester having a lower molecular weight with a blocked diisocyanate having the Formula (I), wherein R=linear, branched or cyclo aliphatic C 2 -C 20 or aromatic C 6 -C 20 and B 1 , B 2 =Caprolactam, Imidazole, dimethyl-pyrazole, triazole, oxim, malonic acid ester, ethylacetylacetonate, phenol, cresol, aliphatic alcohol, secundary amine, hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester. With the process according to the invention a permanent increase in the molecular weight of a polyamide is obtained within 2 minutes, whereas this takes at least 10 minutes under comparable conditions using a blocked isocyanate according to the state of the art.
