Abstract:
A partition (10), mounted on a mounting surface, comprises a plurality of elongate upright members (16,18), a first board (20) and a second board (22). The first board is mounted on one side of a pair of the elongate upright members that are adjacent to each other, and the second board is mounted on the other side of the same pair of adjacent elongate upright members, so as to provide a cavity (24) between the pair of elongate upright members and the first and second boards. The partition further comprises a spacer (26) that is located within the cavity, the maximum dimension of the spacer in the through-thickness direction of the partition being at least 90% of the separation of the two boards. The spacer may help to reduce the extent of inward bowing of the boards between adjacent elongate upright members, so that, for example, the upright members may be spaced further apart
Abstract:
Discloses is an apparatus and method for utilizing air along a building board forming line for the purpose of reducing friction between the board and the underlying forming tables. The device employs a series of air nozzles that are formed within the face of the forming tables. An air source delivers pressurized air to the nozzles. As completed or partially completed boards travel along the forming tables, an air cushion is created to reduce the friction between the board and the underlying table. The pressurized air can also be used to transport the boards and promote the even distribution of slurry during formation. The various components of the present invention, and the manner in which they interrelate, are described in greater detail hereinafter.
Abstract:
A building product comprises calcium sulphate dihydrate particles bound by an organic binder. The calcium sulphate dihydrate particles each have a longest dimension and a lateral dimension, wherein the lateral dimension corresponds to the maximum breadth of the particle about the axis defined by the longest dimension. The calcium sulphate dihydrate particles have a low aspect ratio such that for at least 75% of the calcium sulphate dihydrate particles, the value of the lateral dimension is at least 20% of the value of the longest dimension.
Abstract:
A method and system for producing a gypsum product comprising a mixer for mixing gypsum and water and two foam feeds into the system wherein the foam feeds each comprise foam of different bubble size distributions.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to performance enhancing surface coatings for building boards. More particularly, the disclosure relates to the using of building boards employing surface adhesives to eliminate the need for fasteners in holding building boards in place after installation.
Abstract:
A connector for connecting together first and second elongate members is described. Each of the members to be joined by the connector comprises an open channel extending along the member, the channel having an opening along one side of the member and being partially enclosed by a lip extending along the opening. The connector comprises a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion is shaped to fit into the channel of the first member via one end of the first member. The second end portion is shaped to achieve one of two types of engagement with another channel. Firstly, it may be shaped to permit its insertion into the channel of the second member via the opening when the connector is in a first rotational position with respect to the second member. In this case, the second end portion comprises an engagement structure which is shaped to engage with the lip of the second member when the inserted connector is rotated within the channel from the first rotational position into a second rotational position with respect to the second member. Alternatively, it may be shaped to permit its insertion under pressure into the channel of the second member via the opening. In this case, the second end portion comprises a first engagement structure (e.g. a groove) which is shaped to engage with a second engagement structure (e.g. the lip) of the second member when the second end of the connector has been inserted through the opening. In this way, the first and second elongate members (which might be floor/ceiling channels and vertical studs respectively for example) can be of the same profile. As a result, a single metal profile can act as stud, channel, noggin and door head. Furthermore, a single connector type can be used to form all the connections required between these elements.
Abstract:
A panel for use in building construction comprises a plasterboard having two opposed faces, a polymer-based lamina being provided on one of these faces. The weight per unit area of the panel lies in the range 13.5 to 17.5 kg/m 2 , and the thickness of the panel lies in the range 11-25 mm.
Abstract:
A method of forming a gypsum based product is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: calcining a mixture of water and gypsum under conditions of raised temperature and pressure within a vessel to produce an alpha-hemihydrate slurry therein; passing the alpha-hemihydrate slurry from the vessel to a mixer for mixing with additional water to produce a settable slurry, which is arranged to set to form the gypsum based product.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a gypsum-based product comprises the steps of mixing calcined gypsum with polymer particles and water to provide a slurry. The polymer particles comprise principally polyvinyl acetate, and have a particle size distribution, measured using laser diffractometry, such that particles having a diameter of 4.5 µm or less provide at least 90% of the total particle volume.
Abstract:
A ceiling suspension system comprises a flexible panel, a first support structure and a plurality of elongate support members, wherein each elongate support member comprises a first end and a second end. The first end of each elongate support member is coupled to the first support structure and the second end of each elongate support member is coupled to the flexible panel. The coupling between the elongate support members and the flexible panel is arranged to force the flexible panel into a desired shape.
