The present invention further relates to a stable pharmaceutical formulation comprising a therapeutically effective amount of anhydrous lanthanum carbonate and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or excipients, with the proviso that the said formulation is substantially free of monosaccharides or disaccharides. Further the said formulation is substantially free of amino acids and/or stabilizers. The process of preparing such formulations is also described.
