Abstract: A link assembly has a pair of mechanical links pivotally connected to rotate relative to one another about a pivot axis. A cable protector is provided as part of the link assembly. The cable protector has a cup with an end wall which defines a first end of a winding chamber, and an annular side wall which extends from the end wall and defines a side of the winding chamber. A lid defines a second end of the winding chamber opposite to the first end. The lid is coupled to the cup by a bearing so that the cup and lid can rotate with respect to each other. An opening is formed in the side wall of the cup and a slot is formed in the lid. The assembly is fitted with a cable having a length, a width, and a thickness, wherein the width of the cable is greater than its thickness. The cable has a first portion which extends along a first one of the links and passes into the side of the winding chamber through the opening in the side wall of the cup, a second portion which extends along a second one of the links and passes into the second end of the winding chamber through the slot in the lid, and a rolled portion in the winding chamber in which the cable is wound into a roll, the roll including an outer turn which leads to the first portion and an inner turn which is inside the outer turn and leads to the second portion.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for detecting the presence of water or ice on a structure, for example on the surface of an aircraft. One or more separate heaters are thermally coupled to a structure (for example on the back of wing leading edge skins). A controller applies power to the heaters to heat the different regions of the surface of the structure. The controller detects the presence of water or ice by comparing the power required to achieve the desired surface temperature, and a reference power, where the reference power is the power required to heat the surface of the structure to the same temperature if the structure were in a dry air environment (i.e. an environment devoid of water). If the power consumed by the heater is greater than the reference power, the presence of water or ice is inferred.

Abstract: A printer (2) for printing security cards (14) in which two pairs of pinch rollers (22, 24) convey a substrate (14) past a print head (20). A cam follower (42) is driven by a cam (40) and is mounted on shafts of lower rollers (22a, 24a) of the pinch rollers and a shaft of a platen roller (32). The cam follower can be moved to act against upper rollers (22b, 24b) of the pinch rollers and the print head, in order to bring the pinch rollers or the print head in and out of engagement with the substrate. The printer may also include a return device (70) to urge the substrate back towards a pair of pinch rollers. The rollers can then be reversed, enabling multiple passes of the substrate past the print head or a magnetic strip encoder (36). The substrate can also be inserted and removed via a single slot (12) in the housing of the printer.

Abstract: An active vibration isolation mount is provided for mounting a first member to a second member and for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the first member to the second member. A spring arrangement is arranged between the first and second members. A sensor senses vibrations in the first member. A force actuator applies a controlling force to the second member in response to vibrations sensed by the sensor. The spring arrangement is adapted to provide a delay between the first and second members equal to or greater than a delay in the application of the controlling force by the force actuator in response to the vibrations in the first member. Also a passive mount is provided for mounting a first member to a second member and for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the first member to the second member. The passive vibration isolation mount comprises a first mounting arrangement for mounting to the first member; a second mounting arrangement for mounting to the second member; a spring arrangement arranged between the first and second mounting arrangements; and a mass arrangement coupled to the spring arrangement so as to lie in or adjacent to a region between the spring arrangement and the second mounting arrangement. Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for printing a security card. A security image is printed onto the receiving layer of a dye receptive reverse transfer film, which can then be applied to the card and bonded with the card. The printing of the security image occurs by transferring overcoat material from an overcoat panel of the dye carrying film onto the receiving layer of the dye receptive reverse transfer film in a pattern, which forms the visual security image. This process can be used in conjunction with the printing of a primary image by printing Yellow, Magenta, Cyan dyes and Black resin (YMCK) to the receiving layer in a reverse transfer printing method to provide a security card having a primary image and a security image. The security image printing may occur before or after the YMCK printing.
