摘要: Articles are provided for absorbing fluids. In embodiments, the articles of the present disclosure are modified to make them hydrophobic, thereby decreasing their affinity for water and similar liquids, while increasing their affinity for other hydrophobic materials, including oil. After use, the articles, in embodiments polyurethane sponges, may have their absorbed materials removed therefrom, and the articles may then be re¬ used to absorb additional materials.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for improving action potential morphology in iPSC- derived cardiac myocytes and utilizing such myocytes. Improved morphology may include, for example, physiological resting membrane potentials. Membrane voltages of the myocyte are measured and a synthetic inward rectifying current is applied to the myocyte based on the membrane voltage.

摘要: Provided are compositions and methods for prophylaxis and/or therapy of cancer. The method involves administering to an individual in need of prophylaxis and/or therapy of cancer a composition which contains tanned mammalian red blood cells complexed with one or more agent(s) that can be a peptide having any of SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 or SEQ ID NO:4, or asialoglycophorin, or Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen (TF-Ag). Also provided are compositions which contain tanned red blood cells complexes with the peptides, asialoglycophorin, TF-Ag, or combinations thereof.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for detecting Alzheimer's disease in a subject. This method involves providing a sample from the subject, subjecting the sample to a spectroscopic analysis to produce a spectroscopic signature for the sample, determining whether the spectroscopic signature for the sample corresponds to an Alzheimer's disease spectroscopic signature, and identifying a subject as having Alzheimer's disease where the spectroscopic signature for the sample from that subject corresponds to the spectroscopic signature for Alzheimer's disease. Also disclosed is a method for monitoring Alzheimer's disease progression in a subject, involving providing a sample from a subject with Alzheimer's disease, subjecting the sample to a spectroscopic analysis to produce a spectroscopic signature for the sample, comparing the spectroscopic signature for the sample to a prior spectroscopic signature from the subject or to a spectroscopic signature standard for a specific stage of Alzheimer's disease, and determining the progression of Alzheimer's disease in the subject based on said comparing.

摘要: The present invention features devices that can be used to extract ascites and other fluids from the body with a minimally invasive procedure and, if desired, can also be used to flush the cavity (e.g., the abdominal cavity) from which the fluids were removed. The devices also permit characterization of the fluids in that a surgeon or other health care provider can conveniently obtain a sample of the fluids to assess their composition. The amount of fluid removed from a cavity can also be determined. While the present devices and procedures are not limited to those that bring about any particular physiological response, we believe they will help maintain blood flow and prevent the accumulation of toxins and inflammatory cytokines in bodily cavities, such as the abdominal cavity. We may refer to the devices of the invention as MIST, as they allow for minimally invasive suction and treatment.
