Abstract: The present invention relates to culturing devices that are compact, utilize small amounts of cell culture media to establish and maintain cell cultures, and produce a large number of cells in a short period of time when compared to other cell culturing devices and techniques. Such devices are useful in the culture of all cell types, but are particularly useful in the culture of cells that are known in the art to be difficult to culture, including cells that lose one or more of their particular attributes/characteristics (e.g., pluripotentiality), or cells that are difficult to establish cultures of (e.g. primary cells), during culturing in traditional cell culture devices.

Abstract: Thermoplastic polymeric sheets are rendered microporous and remain substantially flat by contacting the sheet with a first fluid composition that contains or more solvents for the polymeric sheet to render the sheet microporous and then contacting the microporous sheet with a second fluid composition that is substantially free of solvents for the polymer and that contains a non-solvent that is miscible with the one or more solvents of the first composition. Contacting the microporous sheet with the second fluid composition preferably occurs prior to substantial evaporation of the first fluid compositions, or solvents thereof, from the microporous sheet.

Abstract: A multilayered cell culture apparatus for the culturing of cells is disclosed. The cell culture apparatus is defined as an integral structure having a plurality of flexible cell culture compartments in combination with a spacer material maintaining air space(s). The expandable compartments of the cell culture apparatus have imparted therein gas permeable membranes in combination with air spaces that will allow the free flow of gases between the cell culture compartments and the external environment. Furthermore an interconnecting passageway is provided between each compartment and between the cell culturing vessel and the external environment. The expandable vessel promotes the growth of large numbers of adherent or suspension cells by providing the volumes of nutrient medium and gaseous exchange.

Abstract: The invention pertains to methods and devices for the in vitro culture of hematopoietic progenitor cells in the absence of exogenously added hematopoietic growth factors. The hematopoietic progenitor cells are cultured in the absence of exogenously added hematopoietic growth factors without loss in cell progenitor cell numbers and/or functionality, while maintaining progenitor cell pluripotency.
