The present invention enables three-dimensional nanofabrication by isotropic shrinking of patterned hydrogels. A hydrogel is first expanded, the rate of expansion being controlled by the concentration of the crosslinker. The hydrogel is then infused with a reactive group and patterned in three dimensions using a photon beam through a limited-diffraction microscope. Functional particles or materials are then deposited on the pattern. The hydrogel is then shrunk and cleaved from the pattern.

The polymeric film is to exhibit stability under dry conditions at 37°C and prolonged and controllable NO release rates, when exposed to moisture or light capable of photolyzing an RSNO bond, for a predetermined amount of time from the at least one of the discrete RSNO adduct or the polymeric RSNO adduct.

Es wird ein Verfahren zur Kennzeichnung eines Artikels, umfassend ein Formgedächtnispolymer (FGP) mit einem visuell und/oder maschinell lesbaren grafischen Element auf der Oberfläche des Artikels vorgeschlagen, umfassend die Schritte: - Vorbehandeln der Oberfläche des Artikels; - Einfärben der Oberfläche des Artikels mit einer Farbstofflösung, die einen organischen Farbstoff und ein organisches Lösungsmittel enthält, - Reinigen und Trocknen der Oberfläche des Artikels; - Gravieren durch zumindest teil weises Abtragen der Oberfläche des Artikels. Vorteilhafterweise eignet sich das Färbeverfahren für das Färben der Oberfläche eines Formgedächtnispolymers (FGP), wobei in die gefärbte Oberfläche eine Information in Form eines Codes oder einer sonstigen Kennzeichnung eingraviert wird. Die Färbung bewirkt einen verstärkten Kontrast und damit die erleichterte maschinelle Lesbarkeit der Kennzeichnung bzw. Kodierung, ohne die sonstigen Eigenschaften des FGP zu beeinträchtigen.

A cell culture article has substrate that is predominantly opaque and that provides a three-dimensional (e.g., irregular) surface, but incorporates an optically transparent, substantially regular (e.g., two-dimensional) surface to serve as a microscopic observation and imaging window for the 3D cell culture. In many embodiments, the 3D portion of the substrate occupies greater than 99% of the surface while the 2D portion occupies less than 1% of the surface so as not to substantially disrupt the general 3D culture environment.

Methods of sterilizing articles such as wound dressings, include the steps of providing an article that includes a polymer layer, applying an aqueous solution to the polymer layer and applying electron beam radiation to the article. The polymer layer includes a hydrophobic organic matrix that includes an elastomeric polymer and hydrophilic polymeric microparticles dispersed within the elastomeric polymer. Applying the aqueous solution to the polymer layer at least partially swells the hydrophilic microparticles of the polymer layer. In some articles the polymer layer includes an elastomeric polymer, hydrophilic polymeric microparticles dispersed within the elastomeric polymer, and hydrophilic polymer particles with greater than 10 micrometers average particle size dispersed within the hydrophobic organic matrix. These articles may be sterilized by applying either electron beam or gamma radiation.
