An apparatus and method for transmitting and receiving data in a wireless communication is provided. The method includes determining a number of zero-padding bits, determining a number (Npad) of bit groups in which all bits are padded with zeros, padding the all bits within 0th to (Npad-1)th bit groups indicated by a shortening pattern with zeros, mapping information bits to bit positions which are not padded in Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH) information bits, BCH encoding the BCH information bits to generate Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) information bits, and LDPC encoding the LDPC information bits to generate a zero-padded codeword, wherein the shortening pattern is defined as an order of bit groups defined as 6, 5, 4, 9, 3, 2, 1, 8, 0, 7, 10 and 11.

Disclosed is a digital broadcast transmitter. The transmitter of the present invention comprises a MUX unit and an exciter unit, which construct streams containing first service data and second service data that are different from each other. The exciter unit interleaves streams such that the first service data has a first body, a first head and a first tail, the second service data has a second body, a second head and a second tail, and the first head or the first tail is engaged with the second head or the second tail, at the interface between the first service data and the second service data, wherein at least a portion of the second service data is LDPC-coded or turbo-coded, and the rest of the second service data is TCM-coded.

An apparatus and a method are provided for reducing a Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in a broadcasting communication system, which provides a broadcasting service by dividing a broadcasting band into at least two channel bands. At least one primary reservation tone is injected into broadcasting signals of each of the channel bands. An integrated broadcasting signal of the broadcasting band is generated by combining the broadcasting signals of the channel bands. At least one secondary reservation tone is injected into the integrated broadcasting signal of the broadcasting band and the integrated broadcasting signal is transmitted.

The received information bit stream is encoded and a parity bit is added. The parity bit is punctured such that parity bits of different patterns are formed between adjacent frames.

An apparatus and a method for using a frequency hopping scheme in a broadcast communication system are provided. A method for transmitting a broadcast signal via at least two frequency bands by a transmission end device in the broadcast communication system includes determining a frequency hopping pattern for providing a broadcast service and transmitting the same; transmitting control information via a first frame after a frequency is changed according to the frequency hopping pattern; and transmitting broadcast data for the broadcast service via a frame transmitted after the first frame.
