The present invention is directed to the use of hydrophilic terpolymers in hard surface cleaners which provide easier cleaning for surface soils such as hard water stains, soap scum, limescale, mud, food, toilet stains, oil, grease, particulates and the like as well as anti-fog effects on hard surfaces such as glass, mirrors, ceramic and plastic by causing water droplets to coalesce into a film.

Stable emulsions are obtained via the incorporation of a hydrophobically modified copolymer comprised of diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) and diallylamine (DAA) and an optional third monomer. The polymeric emulsifying agent is an effective emulsifier at very low concentration and can be used as a part of, or in the preparation of personal care formulations.

The invention is directed to a method for improving the wettability/hydrophilicity of hydrophobic substrates by applying block copolymers to said substrates wherein the block copolymers comprise a quaternary ammonium polymer block and a hydrophobic block. The method of the invention is especially advantageous when used to improve the wettability of nonwovens and in the treatment of hydrophobic surfaces encountered in the home to prevent the buildup of soil residues.

A cleaning composition for hard surfaces containing a polymeric compound comprising a main backbone derived from at least the following monomeric components: (I) 20 to 99.9% by weight of at least one cationic monomer according to formula (I) wherein R 1 and R 2 are, independently of one another, hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl; R 3 and R 4 are, independently of one another, hydrogen or alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyl alkyl, carboxyamide alkyl or alkoxyalkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms; and Y represents an anion, and (II) 0.1 to 80% by weight of a hydrophobic unsaturated nonionic monomer that polymerizes in the presence of an initiator; optionally up to 60% by weight of a water-soluble monomer (III) which is different from either monomer (I) or monomer (II); and optionally reactant (IV), a crosslinking agent in an amount between 0 to 10% by weight, gives improved soil removal properties, antimicrobial and biofilm suppression properties as well as resistance to resoiling and staining.

The invention relates to hard surface cleaning compositions comprising perfluoroalkyl-substituted compounds. More particularly, it relates to compositions comprising perfluoroalkyl substituted compounds which are the reaction products of a mono-,di-or polyamine of 60 to 10,000 molecular weight with a perfluoroalkyl-substituted unsaturated acid or its corresponding lower alkylester and optionally a non-fluorinated amino-reactive compound such as an acid, ester, anhydride, substituted epoxide, epichlorohydrin, isocyanate or urea. These compounds are useful as components of hard surface cleaning compositions.
