    Abstract: A medical device for directly applying DBD plasma includes a plasma generation module having an electrode surrounded by a dielectric barrier. In one embodiment, when a high voltage source is applied to the electrode, plasma is produced from ambient gas on an outside surface of the plasma generation module. In another embodiment, an enclosure is deployed around the distal end of the plasma generation module surrounding the electrode. Gas flows past the electrode and into the enclosure. In some embodiments, some or all of the gas is removed or pumped out of the enclosure by suction/vacuum. When a high voltage source is applied to the electrode, plasma is produced using the gas flowing into the enclosure.
