    Abstract: A scanning apparatus is disposed on a vehicle and included an external rearview assembly having a housing and an electro-optic element. The electro-optic element includes a first substrate comprising a first surface and a second surface. The electro-optic element also includes a second substrate comprising a third surface and a fourth surface, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate define a cavity. An electro-optic medium is contained in the cavity. An image sensor is disposed on the housing and directed outward, the image sensor configured to capture biometric data from an individual that is processed by a controller to unlock a door of the vehicle.

    Abstract: A vehicle rearview mirror (10) includes a substrate (12) having a reflective surface (14) and an actuation mechanism (16) having a support unit (18) coupled with the substrate (12). The actuation mechanism (16) also has a mounting plate (20) with a first end (22) thereof rotatably coupled with the support unit (18). A toggle latch (24) is rotatably coupled with mounting plate (20) and alternately engages with the support unit (18) in respective first and second positions. The second position corresponds with rotation of the support unit (18) toward a second end (23) of the mounting plate (20) from the first position. The toggle latch (24) is rotatable out of the first and second positions into a release position wherein the toggle latch is disengaged with the support unit (18). A toggle paddle (26) is rotatably coupled with the mounting plate (20) and is positioned adjacent the toggle latch (24) to move the toggle latch (24) into the release position by rotation of the toggle paddle.

    Abstract: A rearview assembly is disclosed. The rearview assembly may comprise an electro-optic element, a display element, and/or a sensor. The electro-optic element may comprise first and second substrates, an electro-optic medium, and a spectral filter. The first and second substrates may be disposed in a substantially spaced apart relationship and may have first and second edges, respectively. The electro-optic medium is disposed between the first and second substrates. The spectral filter may be substantially opaque in appearance and disposed in a peripheral manner on the first substrate. Additionally, the first and second substrates have a substantial miss-match where a line bisecting the first substrate does not bisect the second substrate. The display element is operable to display a digital image. The sensor is operable to sense a condition and generate a signal based thereon. Additionally, the sensor may be optically aligned with the miss-match.
