Abstract: A system and method for operating a hybrid 4G satellite network. The method includes providing a NGSG including a satellite AS/NAS stack, a terrestrial 4G stack and a relay to connect the satellite AS/NAS stack and the terrestrial 4G stack; transporting a 4G traffic between a 4G UE and the NGSG using a satellite air interface; utilizing a terrestrial network between the NGSG and a 4G CN to transport the 4G traffic; and mapping, with the relay, the 4G traffic between the satellite AS/NAS stack and the terrestrial 4G stack and vice versa, where the satellite air interface is better suited for satellite communications than the terrestrial network. A system and method for multiplexing a first-generation UE and a second-generation UE on a satellite channel.

Abstract: A receiver and a method for receiving a radio communication is disclosed. The method includes receiving a burst encoded with a robust modulation coding scheme (MCS) as RX signals; generating, for each of the RX signals, a burst SNR, soft decision symbols and a packet; weighing, each of soft decision symbols with a respective burst SNR, to calculate soft combined symbols that are used to generate a Maximal-Ratio Combining (MRC) packet; and selecting, from the packets and the MRC packet, a CRC passed packet as an output. An adaptive dual burst transmitter is disclosed.

Abstract: A data communications system, includes a data communications device (DCD), and at least one wireless access network, which includes a base station. The DCD generates a narrowband message which includes user-plane data of the DCD. The DCD transmits the narrowband message to the base station via a random access control-plane channel of the wireless access network, prior to any request for or establishment of a wireless or radio resource connection, or establishment of any dedicated radio bearers or wireless channels, between the DCD and the base station.

Abstract: Half tone offset may be utilized to mitigate signal distortion caused by DC bias within OFDM-based systems. In addition a cyclic prefix may be utilized within an OFDM-based system to mitigate inter-symbol-interference. Abstract: A system and method for communicating with an Internet Of Things (IoT) device via a satellite link. The method includes assigning a transmission mode to a physical channel, where the physical channel supports multiple timeslot durations and the transmission mode is selected from a single user (SU) or a multi-user (MU); selecting a timeslot duration from the multiple durations for a payload; obtaining, when the transmission mode is SU, a timeslot grant for use of the physical channel for the timeslot duration; and transmitting a burst including the payload, where the burst is transmitted synchronized with the timeslot grant when the transmission mode is SU and the burst is transmitted without synchronization when the transmission mode is MU.

Abstract: A system and method for determining hierarchical link quality metrics in a communication system, and performing different routines to optimize operation of the communication system based on the link quality metrics. Data is collected for a predetermined interval, and a carrier link quality is determined for each terminal utilizing different carriers in the communication system. A link quality is determined for each terminal type, and a beam link quality is determined for each beam in the system. Different thresholds are set so that optimization routines can be performed based on the current link quality values.
