Abstract:
An expandable tubular connection includes a pin member and a box member. The pin member includes a pin thread formed on a small step and a large step and a first seal surface formed between the small step and the large step. The box member includes a box thread formed on a small step and a large step and a second seal surface formed between the small step and the large step. The pin thread and the box thread are wedge threads. Upon a selected make-up of the pin member with the box member a selected gap exists between the first seal surface and the second seal surface. The gap is selected such that, when plastically radially expanded by a selected amount, a seal is formed between at least a portion of the first seal surface and the second seal surface.
Abstract:
A threaded connection including a pin member and a box member, and methods for manufacturing and forming said threaded connection. The pin member has a pin thread with a pin thread crest, a pin thread root, a pin load flank, and a pin stab flank. The box member has a box thread with a box thread crest, a box thread root, a box load flank, and a box stab flank. At least one of the pin thread crest, the pin load flank, the pin stab flank, the box thread crest, the box load flank, and the box stab flank has at least one perturbation formed thereon. Upon a selected make-up of the pin member with the box member, an increased contact stress exists between the pin thread and the box thread at the at least one perturbation.

A threaded connection having wedge threads, and a method of manufacturing said threaded connection. The threaded connection includes a pin member (101) and a box member (102) having a pin thread (106) and a box thread (107), respectively. The pin thread has a pin thread crest (221), a pin thread root (291), a pin load flank (226), and a pin stab flank (231). The pin thread (106) includes at least a first step (401), a mid-step (402), and a second step (403) formed sequentially thereon. The box thread (107) has a box thread crest (292), a box thread root (222), a box load flank (225), and a box stab flank (232). The box thread includes at least a first step, a mid-step, and a second step formed sequentially thereon. The steps on the box thread correspond generally in axial position with the steps on the pin thread. The first step (401) has a first wedge ratio, the mid-step (402) has a transition wedge ratio, and the second step (403) has a second wedge ratio. The thread leads are substantially constant within each of the steps. The connection is designed such that, at make-up of the pin member with the box member, a clearance exists between at least one of the corresponding load flanks and the corresponding stab flanks on at least one of the first step, the mid-step, and the second step.

The present invention comprises a hydraulic control system and method for rapidly actuating subsea equipment in deep water comprising a combination of a subsea control valve having a small actuation volume with a small internal diameter umbilical hose extending downward to the control valve.
Abstract:
A method to design an oilfield tubular string for a well includes determining the corrosiveness of fluids in the well and selecting an alloy for the oilfield tubular string, such that a corrosion resistance and a yield strength of the alloy may be varied through a heat treatment process, heat treating the alloy to survive the determined well fluid corrosiveness and determining the yield strength of the heat treated alloy, and selecting a diameter, a wall thickness, and a connection type for the oilfield tubing stnng based on the determined yield strength.
