Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a compression dressing designed to provide moisture transport properties to a contact surface and compression therapy for patients with swelling due to various medical conditions. The compression dressing is minimally comprised of at least one layer of moisture transport fabric comprised of elastic fiber that exhibits a sufficient amount of elasticity to apply a compressive force to a body part when applied thereto. The compression dressing further provides one-way, active fluid management which can move fluid away from the skin. The compression dressing may also include at least one absorptive reservoir layer that is applied to the outer surface of the moisture transport fabric. This absorptive reservoir layer may be removed as needed without substantially disrupting the compressive force applied to a body part. The method for using the compression dressing to manage fluid movement and edema is also provided

Also provided are methods of preparing the flame resistant fabric.
Abstract:
A fluid management cover system of launderable and durable character including at least one fluid transport layer with at least one absorptive reservoir layer disposed in underlying relation to the fluid transport layer. The upper surface of the absorptive reservoir layer is characterized by a greater capillarity than the adjacent surface of the fluid transport layer such that fluid is drawn away from the fluid transport layer and is held within the absorptive reservoir layer. At least one pressure distribution layer incorporating material that at least partially recovers following compression is disposed at a position below the absorptive reservoir layer. An optional skin contacting layer may be disposed above the fluid transport layer and an optional backing layer may be disposed in underlying relation to other layers.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a substrate comprising multiple layers which are designed to provide moisture absorption, non-adherence, and antimicrobial properties to a contact surface. The substrate is minimally comprised of (a) at least one skin contact layer of apertured hydrophobic polymeric film, (b) at least one layer of absorptive material that contains a reinforcement material, and (c) at least one layer of liquid impermeable film backing. The substrate may also include a layer of material that contains an antimicrobial agent. The substrate may be ideally suited for use in the medical field as an absorptive pad for end-uses such as wound care (e.g. burn care), surgery care, and incontinence care.
Abstract:
A heterophasic polymer composition comprises a propylene polymer phase, an ethylene polymer phase, a compatibilizing agent comprising a fulvene moiety, and a nucleating agent. A method for modifying a heterophasic polymer composition comprises the steps of providing a compatibilizing agent, providing a nucleating agent, providing a heterophasic polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer phase and an ethylene polymer phase, mixing the compatibilizing agent, the nucleating agent, and the heterophasic polymer composition, and generating free radicals in the propylene phase and the ethylene phase. At least a portion of the compatibilizing agent then reacts with free radicals in both the propylene polymer phase and the ethylene polymer phase to form a bond with a propylene polymer in the propylene polymer phase and a bond with an ethylene polymer in the ethylene polymer phase.
Abstract:
An additive composition comprises one or more calcium cis-1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate salts. The calcium 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate salts have a BET specific surface area of 20 m2/g or more. A method for producing a thermoplastic polymer composition entails mixing the additive composition with a thermoplastic polymer, melting the resulting admixture, and letting the admixture solidify to produce a polymer composition.
