Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for detecting leaks in systems for treating a patient with reduced pressure. In one instance, a system includes a distribution manifold for disposing proximate to the tissue site and a sealing member for disposing over the distribution manifold and at least a portion of intact epidermis of the patient. The sealing member has at least a portion that is substantially transparent. The system further includes a reduced-pressure source associated with the distribution manifold for providing reduced pressure to the distribution manifold and a leak-detection member sized and configured to substantially surround the distribution manifold. The leak-detection member includes a detection material that develops a color contrast when a portion is exposed to air and a portion is not exposed to air. The leak detection member works with even low flow systems. Other systems, methods, and apparatus are presented.
Abstract:
A system for managing a skin wound, including at least one occlusive dressing; and at least one moldable composition, in which the occlusive dressing includes an occlusive layer and a fluid-absorbing pressure-sensitive adhesive material including a mixture of an adhesive material and at least one water-soluble and/or water-swellable polymer, and the moldable composition is moldable to fill body contours adjacent and/or overlapping the skin wound and when used with the occlusive dressing substantially all portions of the skin wound can be in contact with one of the moldable composition or the occlusive dressing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to dressing material comprising a plurality of layers which are adjacent to each other and joined together, namely at least one first perforated layer forming a covering on the wound, a second layer which is preferably multi-layered, soft and simultaneously absorbent in addition to a third layer forming in the outer surface of the dressing material facing away from the wound when applied. At least one chamber for distributing a liquid treatment medium is provided in the second layer, inside the series formed by said layers.
Abstract:
Occlusive dressing system, which comprises an endless, elongated, flexible, adhesive barrier, adapted to be arranged in a closed configuration, whereby to bound and define a surface area, and an impermeable sealing film adapted to overlie said surface area and to isolate it from the environment, when superimposed to said barrier arranged in said configuration, said barrier forming a gas-tight seal with said sealing film when the two are applied to and pressed against one another. A spreading mechanism that alows a single person to spread the sealing film over the occluding barrier and to detach the film from the main roll and ports (inlet and outlet) that can be placed across the barrier or the occluding film.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The illustrative systems, methods, and dressings for applying reduced pressure to a tissue site are presented that involve quickly removing fluids from the tissue site to reduce or avoid maceration of the epidermis. One dressing includes a dressing material for transferring the reduced pressure to the tissue site and a drape covering at least a portion of the dressing material. The dressing material includes a hydrophobic tissue-interface layer adapted to contact the tissue site. The dressing material also includes a manifold adapted to distribute reduced pressure. The manifold may be a hydrophobic layer. The dressing material also includes one or more absorbent layers adapted to absorb liquid from the tissue site via the tissue-interface layer and the manifold. Other aspects are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to wound dressing (1) including an outer layer of air-impermeable material (4) and means (5) for attaching the dressing to the skin surrounding a wound, a pre-compressed body (2) of resilient material, said body creating a sub-pressure after attaching the dressing to a wound. According to the invention the pre-compressed body (2) is enclosed in a casing (3) of air-tight material, whereby at least a portion of said casing is made of a soluble material, which dissolves after contact with liquid exudate.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a treatment solution for treating or taking care of chronic or post-operative wounds which contains the following as an aqueous solution per litre of solution, in addition to water and acid: 10 100mg of zinc, 6.5 65mg of iron (Fe). The acid quota is selected in such a way that a pH value of approximately 2.5 3.5, preferably 2.8, is obtained.

Abstract:
A bandage for improved wound care is disclosed. The bandage comprises a non-adherent, deformable inner layer, a leak-proof outer layer that is substantially coextensive with the inner layer, and an absorbent middle layer contacting both the inner and outer layers. An adhesive strip and adhesive tabs along the bandage's side attach and adjust the fit of the bandage to securely hold the absorbent layer in contact with the wound, without any adhesive touching the skin, thereby eliminating pain and discomfort upon removal or replacement. The bandage allows substantial freedom of motion without slipping. The adhesive strip and tabs secure the bandage in place without any adhesive touching the skin, thereby providing convenience and causing no pain or discomfort upon removal or replacement of the bandage. The bandage may use a non-stick netting material layer to improve patient comfort, and elastic cuffs to improve fit and leakage.
