Abstract:
This invention relates to coated polyurethane foams and to a process for preparing coated polyurethane foams. More specifically, these coated polyurethane foams comprise (a) a polyurethane foam substrate, and (b) at least one bilayer of a coating composition on the foam substrate which comprises (1 ) a layer of a positively or negatively charged carbon allotrope, and (2) a layer of a positively or negatively charged polymer. When the carbon allotrope is positively charged, the other material is negatively charged, and vice versa. The final product (i.e. coated polyurethane foam) contains at least 1% by weight of the coating composition, based on 100% by weight of the coated polyurethane foam. The foams described herein have a surface resistivity of less than or equal to 1012 ohms per square.
Abstract:
A formulation includes a polymeric material, a nucleating agent, a blowing, and a surface active agent. The formulation can be used to form a container.
Abstract:
A water vapour permeable multi-layer thermal insulation (10) includes two water vapour permeable outer layers (16, 18) encapsulating inner air and water vapour permeable layers (14) of insulation material and at least one inner separating layer (12) of an air-open fibrous material interleaved with the inner thermal insulation layers (14) and having a mean flow pore size that allows water vapour to move from one side of the at least one inner fibrous separating layer to the other and through the inner insulation layers yet restricts mass movement of air from one side to the other of the at least one inner fibrous separating layer (12) to form a barrier to convection.
Abstract:
An article of manufacture includes a body having an inlet and an outlet, and at least a portion of at least one porous non-ceramic substrate positioned such that the porous polymeric substrate separates the inlet from the outlet. The porous non-ceramic substrate has a conformal coating on at least a portion of its interior surfaces.
Abstract:
A method of depositing a conformal coating on a porous non-ceramic substrate requires reactive gases to flow through the substrate so as to leave a conformal coating behind. The process can be used to leave a hydrophilic surface on the interior pores of the substrate, even when the substrate is of a naturally hydrophobic, e.g., olefinic material. The method can be used in a roll-to-roll process, or in a batch process. In some convenient embodiments of the latter case, the batch reactor and the conformally coated substrate or substrates can together go on to be come part of the end product, e.g., a filter body and the filter elements respectively.
Abstract:
A method for making a polysulfone having zwitterionic functionality comprising reacting a piperazine amine functionalized polysulfone with sultone is described as are blends withother polymers. Membranes containing polysulfones having zwitterionic functionality are also provided. Membranes thus formed are used in hemodialysis, hemofiltration, and water purification.
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods, reaction mixtures, and two-component systems for the production of silicon foams, wherein in a first reaction of compounds having at least one Si-H group hydrogen is released in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, and in a second reaction the reaction mixture is cross-linked in the presence of a metal catalyst.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a breathing adhesive sheet material comprising a sheet layer having apertures and an adhesive coating layer with apertures corresponding to at least part of the apertures of said sheet layer, provided on one side of said sheet layer having apertures, wherein said apertures in said adhesive coating layer constitute portions of a substantially continuous adhesive coating layer separated there from by remaining adhered to a protective sheet layer upon removal thereof. The invention also relates to a composite sheet material comprising such adhesive sheet material with a removable protective sheet layer provided to separate portions from the continuous adhesive layer upon separation thereof from the adhesive sheet material. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such an adhesive sheet material comprising the steps of applying a layer of uncured adhesive material to a sheet layer having apertures and a layer of protective sheet material, and submitting the sheet layer having apertures, the layer of protective sheet material and the layer of uncured adhesive material to a curing operation, thereby causing the layer of adhesive material to preferentially adhere to the sheet layer having apertures outside the apertures, and to adhere to the protective sheet layer at said apertures.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a composite comprising carbon nanotubes coated with a polymer, wherein the polymer comprises at least one hydrophobic monomer unit. This invention also relates to a process for the production of a composite comprising a polymer and carbon nanotubes.
