Abstract:
An apparatus and method for producing an embossed product, the apparatus including a first embossing member (20) and a second embossing member (30) . The first embossing member has a plurality of discrete embossing elements (410) disposed in a first pattern (400) . The second embossing member has a plurality of second embossing elements (510) including at least one linear embossing element. The second embossing elements are disposed in a second pattern (500) such the first pattern and the second pattern nest together. The present invention also includes an embossed web including at least one discrete embossment and at least one linear embossment.
Abstract:
An apparatus (1000) for the concurrent converting of multiple web products includes at least a first unwind station (100) and a second unwind station (200). The apparatus further includes a first web transformation station (160) associated with a first web material (152) unwound from the first unwind station, and a second web transformation station (260) associated with the second web material unwound from the second unwind station. The first and second web transformation stations are disposed such that less than twice the width of the widest web material separates a portion of the first web material in the first web transformation station from a portion of the second web material in the second web transformation station. The method of the invention includes steps of unwinding web materials (152, 252) from rolls at each of the first and second unwind stations and transforming the respective web materials using the first and second web transformation stations.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for unwinding a vertically oriented roll of web material is disclosed. The roll comprises a lower surface, an upper surface and a circumferential surface. The apparatus comprises: at least one drive element adapted to rotate the vertically oriented roll, a sensor adapted to measure a tension of the web, and a controller adapted to adjust a speed of the web according to the tension of the web. The method comprises steps of rotating the roll, determining a desired web tension, and adjusting the speed of the roll according to the desired web tension.
Abstract:
A roll of fibrous structure. The fibrous structure can be embossed and have a basis weight of less than about 45 pounds per 3000 square feet. The roll can have a roll diameter greater than about 6.5 inches and a roll density of greater than about 0.09 grams per cubic centimeter. The roll can also have a dispensed to effective caliper ratio of greater than about 1.01.
Abstract:
An apparatus (1000) and method for enabling the transfer of a fluid to a web material, the apparatus comprising a fluid transfer component (100) having a first surface (110 ) , a second surface (120) , and a non-random pattern of distinct pores (130) . The pores (130) connect the first surface (110) and the second surface (120) and are disposed at preselected locations to provide a desired pattern of permeability. The apparatus (1000) also comprises a fluid receiving component (200) comprising a fluid receiving surface (210) , a fluid supply (400) adapted to provide a fluid in contact with the first surface (110) of the fluid transfer component, and a fluid motivating component (500) adapted to facilitate transport of the fluid from the first surface (110) through the pores (130) to the second surface (120) . The method comprises steps of providing the apparatus, motivating a fluid through the pores and bringing the fluid receiving component into contact with the motivated fluid.
Abstract:
Embossed multi-ply fibrous structure products and methods for making same are provided. The embossed multi-ply fibrous structure product (10) comprises a first ply of fibrous structure (12) and a second ply of fibrous structure (14) that are adhesively bonded together by an adhesive along their adjacent surfaces (16, 18), respectively at bond sites (20). The embossed multi-ply fibrous structure product further comprises embossment sites (22). The embossment sites exhibit an embossment height a of at least 1000um. The embossment sites extend in the y-direction from the x-plane of the embossed multi-ply fibrous structure product. The embossment sites are not adhesively bonded together and are not densified. The bond sites are adhesively bonded together by adhesive (24) and are densified.

Abstract:
A web transfer and chop-off assembly for a paper web rewinder used in a paper converting operation capable of maintaining positive control of the web (50) at all times. The web transfer and chop-off assembly delivers a web to an empty core (302) faced with glue and supported on a mandrel (300) of a web winding turret (202) assembly, at about the same time the web is severed from a fully wound core supported on a second mandrel on the turret assembly.
