Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes, apparatuses, and systems for converting solar energy. One apparatus includes a housing formed from a polymer composition, the housing comprising: a wall disposed about a periphery of at least a portion of a recessed surface having an interior side and an exterior side; a first sliding surface disposed internal to the wall and extending from the interior side of the recessed surface; and a second sliding surface disposed internal to the wall and extending from the interior side of the recessed surface; and a plurality of absorbers disposed internal to the wall of the housing and slideably disposed on at least one of the first sliding surface and the second sliding surface, wherein each of the absorbers is configured to allow passage of a fluid therethrough to heat the fluid.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the impact performance of a target material comprising a hollow structure comprising an outlet end located above a target. The hollow structure is dimensioned to allow free movement of a drop test object through the outlet end. A trigger is located proximate to the outlet end and a retaining member is located proximate to the outlet end and coupled to hollow structure. The retaining member is configured to retain the drop test object in the hollow structure upon activation of the trigger.

Abstract: An insert (10) includes a core portion (14) having a core portion internal diameter and a core portion external diameter, wherein the core portion comprises internal threads (16); and external threads (18); wherein the external threads have an external thread diameter, wherein the external thread diameter is at least 155% greater than the core portion external diameter, preferably greater than or equal to 160% greater than the core portion external diameter. Methods of making the insert include milling a steel block or injection molding a polymeric material.
