Abstract:
The invention provides compositions, kits, and methods for performing colorimetric analysis. A substrate is reacted to generate a chromogenic reaction product, and a reaction stop reagent that is a sulfonic acid is added to stop and stabilize the reaction product. The absorbance properties of the chromogenic reaction product can be maintained over significantly longer periods of time of that of conventional reagents and methods. The sulfonic acid can be used in assays such as ELISAs in order to provide a more accurate and safer detection of analytes in a biological sample.
Abstract:
The invention provides cell-adherent polymeric coatings for articles having a nanofibrillar structure. The coatings include a synthetic, non-biodegradable polymer having at least one pendent amine group, wherein the polymer is covalently immobilized on the article via latent reactive groups. The invention also provides methods for the long term culturing of cells using the polymer coated nanofibrillar structures. The polymer coated nanofibrillar structures of the invention have been found to be particularly useful for the growth and differentiation of cells, including neural precursors.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods for forming ultra-thin hydrophilic polymeric coatings on articles, as well as articles formed therefrom. The coatings are formed by irradiating a composition including a polymer having pendent photoreactive groups while the composition is in contact with a surface of the article.
Abstract:
The invention provides cell-adherent polymeric coatings for articles, the coating including a synthetic, non-biodegradable polymer having a plurality of pendent amine groups, wherein the polymer is covalently immobilized on the article via latent reactive groups. The invention also provides methods for the long-term attachment of cells using the polymeric coatings.
Abstract:
The disclosure provides insertion tools and articles that facilitate entry of a medical device, such as a balloon catheter, into the body. In embodiments the insertion tools have an elongate hollow body (50) that is able to protect a portion of a medical device, such as a balloon of a balloon catheter, during an insertion procedure. In one embodiment the insertion tool has an elongate hollow body (131), a tapered distal end (135), and a locking mechanism (133) at the proximal end which can secure a portion of a balloon catheter. An opening at the distal end can allow passage of the balloon in a folded uninflated state.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the disclosure include coatings comprising an oligomerized polyphenol layer. The oligomerized polyphenol layer can be used as an intermediate coated layer on a medical device that hydrogen bonds to a synthetic or natural polymer, which in turn can be used as a top coat or further associated with another coated layer. The multilayered coatings can provide properties such as hemocompatibility or lubricity. In other embodiments, the oligomerized polyphenol layer is used on a medical device as a hemostatic layer configured to contact blood and promote coagulation. The oligomerized polyphenol layer can also be used on the inner surface (e.g., inner diameter) of a medical device to prevent bacterial adherence. The oligomerized polyphenol layer can also be used on the surface of a in vitro diagnostic article, or a cell culture device to, promote adsorption of a biological molecule.
